Dirk’s (Cue-Ball) parts list saved my ass yet again with the exploded parts diagram. One of them is 1200 pages of diagrams like this, every jeep from 88-90, which fits in my case since the axle is from an 89 XJ.

Lots and lots of dirt in the axle tubes, but guess the seals were doing their job keeping it out of the diff.

This… was just funny. Steve got owned by the random snow. Snow in April. Weird.

We used Silber’s patented method of getting those stupid seals to seat. ˝” threaded rod through the tube to squeeze them in place. We maybe torn one of them a lil’, but I’ll just do it again if need be…

This isn’t the final pattern, and is actually the first one we got. Dave (DMG) wants to add another small shim to move it a lil’, but we discovered that my bearing puller SUCKS so we had to put off the project for a few days, and he’ll borrow one from where he works.

Notice the shiny new full Detroit :D

Steve has a problem with my hammer. Actually, he’s such a “union bastard” that he won’t use most of my Chinese crap tools, he took the liberty of writing dildo on my “cheapass dildo of a hammer” – Thanks Steve!

Mucho better...
If you have time, might try to move it out just a tad more. Drive side looks good, coast is tiny bit deep. What's the backlash?

Fun..aint it. Now put the housing in the heep, do the gears on laying your back, while surrounded by intoxicated friends lighting off explosives, and you know how my 4th of July was!

LMAO, that was the greatest 4th of july ever. Marks laying there setting my gears in the 44 while Big Dave and I were drunk with $400 of illegal fireworks saying HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS!

I like doing the gears with the axle on the floor much more, thanks :finga:

The backlash I think was .007 (more like .0065ish) - specs I have call for 6-10. DMG's bringing over an in. lb torque wrench tonight, we'll see how that reads. The coast side doesn't look so deep in person, the pics are pissing me off. Ok, I'm gonna go weld some more random crap together!

I like Steve's Jeep. Well...my grille is painted with bedliner. Maybe I'll do my hood then my doors -- won't be much left after that so I'll just paint it all. I love black.

You go do that, knock yourself out.

Steve is actually painting his Jeep within the next couple of weeks. All the flat black will be gone.

Matt, is there any way you could send me a pdf with the wiring for the power window circut on an 88XJ? It really dosen't bother me to have them down all the time on the trail, but when it's parked I don't need it raining inside rusting all the metal I'm putting back in.

I'll see what I can do, problem is I only have the parts lists and diagrams for the early XJ's - not the full schematics, let me see what I can come up with. Might want to send Cue Ball a PM on MallCrawlin, he sells the full FSM's for $10 a pop in PDF (legal versions too)

$10.00 seems like a fair deal, does he send a CD, or is it a download? I'm going to pm him in a little while. Thanks for the lead.

I wouldn't paint it -- that looks sick.
