I've been looking into a HP dana 30 swap for my 2000 TJ. From what I have gathered so far, it is basically a bolt in swap, and the axle shafts, hubs, and brakes from my current dana 30 will fit. However, I can't find whether or not the carrier from my current dana 30 (as well as my no-slip locker) will fit. Anyone have any experience/input?

Thanks,
Tom

Carrier and locker will work. Just remember the gearing breakover point for all D30's (HP and non).

And if you need a new carrier for >= 3.73 gears, I have a brand new one I'll be selling since I ended up going with the full detroit...

Oh, and I'd suggest the non disco. The disco HP30 had a cast UCA (better) mount for the upper right arm while the non disco is just folded sheet metal like the LP30's, I don't like this block off plates :)|

Forgot to mention, I used my no slip from my origional LP 30 in my HP30 until I blew it up. In short, ya, it'll swap.

Thanks Matt. This morning I went to Sechrist and pulled a non-disco HP 30 from a 96 XJ. I'll be starting the rebuild this week.

Tom, did you pull the whole thing or just the housing? Those shafts MIGHT have 297 joints, and I could offset the cost of your axle purchase for some trail spares. Let me know.

If it's from a 96, I bet it has 297 style shafts... lucky find!

I say MIGHT because the Jeep may have been serviced at a less than reputable shop where instead of replacing a u-joint, they pulled the whole axle and put in a junkyard 260 jointed shaft. Ask me why I don't take my Jeep to be serviced anywhere other than my friendly local 5 star dealer, and why I have a driver side 260 shaft instead of a shiny-under-all-that-mud 297 shaft that I bought before I knew what I was doing.
