I am going to call Jordan back again shortly and try to get this a little more organized (Meeting point / time) so we can get his Jeep out of the woods before it gets dark again.

Bill
05-09-2005, 01:42 PM
Well, here is the bad news...

It looks like Jordan is stuck at work and will be there until about 10pm. It looks like we will not be attempting to extract his Jeep from the woods until Tuesday afternoon at the earliest. If anything changes one of us will post it up here. 8O

LOL, I'd have no problem with a payment plan, just with putting it on your Jeep! Youd' need some custom hyrdaulic lines made and some crazy fittings, it'd be more research than work.

I'm free all day. I saw Matt yesterday and he said that the driveshafts or axleshafts need pulled? Should some of us go out there earlier and get all of that done? I know Bill seems to be the only local one with a winch, oh and Mike (redneckyj). Or is it in a place where he can just get tugged out with a strap?

Front driveshaft can stay on since it's a disco axle, Bill thinks that the rear can stay on but I call BS. It's stuck in gear so I don't see that tcase going into nuetral.

Let's go muddin ;)

yea steering column is busted, it needs hotwires to get started, and not only that, we get it started it still wont steer. on top of that, yea its in 4wd low. its not in a mud hole or anything, real easy trail, real close to my friends farm, buuuut did i mention its across the trail sideways? yea thats a problem too, so in gear, no start, no steering, and im sure ill run into more problems, i jst want it out.

since bill is free at about 7:45, can we shoot for then? granted, that i can get one of the idiots i work with to come in for a few hours. they are lazy to the extreme, and id have trouble getting one of them to cover for me if my house was on fire and i had to put it out, yea they're that bad. but i have to go to work in an hour, when the time comes, hopefully between, Bill, Matt, and I, we have all of your phone numbers.

thanks a million for all the help too.

Bill

7:45pm it is. Give me a call later this afternoon and we can arrange a meeting point somewhere. I will need a little time after work to grab some additional recovery gear and get out of uniform.

goooood deal, i work with 2 people, a stoner and a fat kid, and the stoner will cover, so its good. we are pushing for 7:45, and i say we can meet in the parking lot of like damons in heidelberg? its real close to where we are going, but i gotta get to work now, bill gimme a call whenever to finalize all this.

thanks again to everyone.

How about meeting at Cold Stone Creamery across from Damons since Damons lot is usually full? :dunno

Bill let me know what you need from my house and I can have it piled inside the garage for a quick grab when you come to get me. Bring your camera since that is my job :smt118

Yeah WTF!!! How did it go? Is Jordan's Jeep completly screwed? We need info!!

Bill
05-11-2005, 11:14 AM
Well, I had Jordan's YJ up and running within 2 minutes of getting there. His steering column is SCREWED, but it is running.

HOWEVER... Some people decided to "air down" the tires for better traction on the terrain. Some people aired down a little 2 much. As it sits right now both front tires are off the front rims. It is no longer stuck, but it needs the tires fixed before we can move it safely without causing damage.

All in all it was sucessful with a catch. It should be all better by the end of the day.

:worthless:

The actual steering components of the column is intact. It will steer, though it is in poor shape and I would not trust it on the road. The problem that the column had was that in the ignition system. The rod that is connected to the mechanism the key fits into had become detatched. (I got around that with a straight-headed screwdriver. ) Previously, the Jeep would not start or come out of gear (auto on the coulmn) but that problem is solved. Now all it needs it 2 front tires and it is good to go. (A new steering column is required too, but I know it is on the list.)

Oh, pics later tonight when I get home and download the camera...

yea thanks to Matt, and Steve, who thought an air down was in order, my front two tires are off the rim, so if anyone has a good jack i can use to get my front end up, or any ideas on how, what to use blah blah blah let me know, cause i need to get those rims off and the tires remounted and balanced. Altough i should have Matt get them done for me

but he will just say things like "sorry you have shitty tires, im not used to that blah blah blah"

you guys know how he is :D

I can bring my Hi-lift down and we can get the wheels off. Do you know anyone that has 2 spare tires that you could borrow just to get it off the trail?

r6cyclegal
05-11-2005, 03:06 PM
There's no place for a hi-lift.

We don't know what happened with the air down thing. Bill said did you air down? Jordan said no and everyone just started airing down?!?!? No one said he should air down, it just happened?!?!? :?

xsjado
05-11-2005, 03:30 PM
yeaaa, all i have to do is get those wheels off, then ill just take them and get the tires remounted instead of messing with spares. i just need to find a worthy way of lifting it

r6cyclegal

It just started raining in Bethel so the ground might be softer :(
I hope you can get it out. Bring a block to put under the jacks so they don't sink.

Happycamper
05-11-2005, 04:27 PM
How about a regular floor jack? Is it a possibility?

We all might have to go out there and lift the thing up by hand!! 8O

OverkillZJ
05-11-2005, 04:43 PM
Ya, I heard that some ass hole let too much air out of his crappy tires since said ass hole was under the impression you were actually stuck and didn't just have a pussified steering column :P

I told you I'd be glad to mount the tires, but you're on your own for balancing

Let me know how it goes, I'm working now and I'll probably be working at home until 10pm or so remoting servers. I slacked off too much yesterday and fell behind.

As far as safely getting it up, I think that there's room for a SMALL jack under there. I don't think a "normal" jack like mine'd fit. No place for a high lift. A good scissor jack would be great, you know, one not made for my Corolla!

xsjado
05-11-2005, 04:57 PM
yea yea, i just need to find a "good" scissor jack then. or maybe an excavator? hmm. we'll have to see. As far as the near future, I'll be training all night tonight, so it will probably have to wait.

Dont worry Matt, as soon as i get my rims off I'll be bringing them to your house for you.

so what do you guys say? Party at Matt's house on friday? not like we need his permission or anything, since he messed up my tires. 8)

If you guys don't want to try ether you can stop by the shop with the tires and I will reseat them on our tire machine. It won't be as entertaining to watch as ether, though.

Find factory parts listings for both your vehicle and his. See if the parts numbers are the same. Matt may be able to come through with the parts numbers...
