Back to work, being the weekend and all and that the weather didn’t totally suck. Exception of that random storm that got me pretty good.

Anyway, My tranny was leaking at the output seal, and the SYE on the transfer case was leaking at its output seal too. Not bad, but when you’re planning an 8,000 mile trip you don’t really want to leave much to go wrong. Fix what you know can go wrong. First took off the tcase skid.

Drained the amsoil.. man, there goes some money.

Removed the bolts holding the tranny and tcase together. Rested it on a jack, and pulled it backwards.

Made a mess of more expensive Amsoil ATF on my driveway.

Removed the yoke, and old seal, and installed the new one in the tcase.

Installed the yoke again.

Removed the old seal on the tranny output shaft. Man, that made a bigger mess that I got to roll around in.

Putting new seal on.

This is a true PITA when you don’t have help. My back hurts.

Painted up the Claytons cross member as long as it was off. It was pretty rusty.

Made the mistake of forgetting about my shift linkage when I lowered the tranny and tcase on the jack. This if the pivot point of it, need to get a replacement. Crap.

But all in all, not bad for a days work!

Man, when I had my 231 I thought it was a PITA to put in and take out....then I put in my 205. Holy crap, the 231 is a paperweight compared to that cast iron turd! 8O

Ya, I think the 205 has a good 60 pounds on a 231 and 50 in a 231HD. Either way, I don't like doing it laying on my back

Matt, next time just roll the Jeep on it's side so you don't have to lay under it.
