With all of the talk about guns on here in the past couple of months I had to ask....What would be your ideal/favorite hand gun to own? I am sure some of you already own what would be your favorite, but if not what would it be?

I always wanted a little blackpowder flintlock hangun. So I could challenge people to a duel.

I already own my ideal handgun as it's perfect for concealed carry and packs enough punch to get the job done.

Colt Cobra .38 Special

My dream handgun would probably have to be either a colt or springfield .45 1911

That is what I am looking into right now is a .45. I am going to a gun bash next weekend and I am going to def. take a look at a couple different .45's.

If you have the money i would go for the XD 45, by far better than a GLOCK, i know casue we have both. Also if you want to stay around 400 or less then go with the TAURUS PT-111 40 cal. Are you looking to carry or just something to own?

well like said, it depends on your intentions...

for a concealed gun.... i like these...

http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11101&storeId=10001&productId=67969&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=50802&isFirearm=Y

rather pricey but damn are they nice... very light...

otherwise... my ruger redhawk 44 is a nice large gun to fire...

also like my XD9 for personal carry...

and my Dan Wesson 357 is very accurate...

i can't talk about guns anymore... i want them all!!

I like my beretta its single and double action with a safety and is smaller for concealability . If you have children you will want to look into a gun that has the safety factor making harder for them to fire it if they would ever get ahold of it. I am actually going to upgrade to a 40 cal in the beretta eventually.

stillersfan
10-30-2008, 01:42 PM
oh and there is a gunbash at the Kinlock fire dept.(new kensington area) this sunday the 2nd tickets are 20 dollars if still available...

stillersfan
10-30-2008, 01:51 PM
also remebember that if you are going to carry you might want to look for knock down power versus velocity. the nine mill has a higher velocity then a 40 or 45 but the 40 and 45 have a better knock down due to a larger projectile. I made this mistake in purchasing my nine mill but I am still pleased with its performance. But going with the larger cal you will also be carrying a larger in size weapon that isnt as concealable as the smaller callibers such as the nine or 38.

If you're not carrying, go for a 1911 style .45, I like the Kimbers.

Personally I own a S&W .40 cal tactical and really like it. My next will be a .357 w/ a 4" (possibly 6") barrel.

JeepSteeler
10-30-2008, 03:14 PM
I have a S&W .357 revolver - 6" barrel, nice for plinking, but too heavy to carry on a daily basis in my opinion. I do take it fishing in bear country, but haven't caught anything with it yet.
I have a Taurus PT .40, but I don't like the clip release, I end up bumping it sometimes when shooting 2 guns at the same time.

I think the XD will be my next purchase for carrying, prob in .45

I think the real answer depends on what you want the gun for. There are different guns that are ideal for pinking, others for home defense and yet others for carry.

I am no expert on this but that is my opinion.

you can take a colt 1911 tie it to your D ring in the back and take it on a trail ride slap a clip in and it will go bang.and remember if it,s worth 1 bullet it,s worth 2. you don,t need to end up having some slimeball suing your butt for protecting yourself.as for your guns obama doesn,t want to take your guns just the bullets that pierce body armor thats all rifle ammo and all the little bullets that are easily concealable your handgun bullets.
remember the conisitution states "the right to bear arms" not "the right to bear loaded arms"i,m voting for the guy that looks like the guys on my money.

I've been looking into the RI 1911 for a cheap "beater" gun. I've read a lot about them jamming, any problems with yours?

Also, where did you get it? They're tough to find locally.

I was talking about Rock Island Armory .45's to my roommate earlier and his comment was he woulndn't waste his time with a model 1911 that was that cheap.

I had to disagree because based on all of the reviews I've read they seem like a pretty solid firearm without all of the bells and whistles for a decent price. Something I would definitely be willing to purchase somewhere along the line.

*and I posted pics of it earlier but I love my .38 as a carry weapon.*

I was wondering this myself since this is going to be my first gun bash. I was also having an open debat at work about what you need to do to own a handgun/carry and carry a conceiled handgun (meaning what kind of permits do you need and what do you legally have to do to carry conceiled).

In case you haven't noticed I am a noob when it comes to owning a gun. I have shot and used many different kinds, but never owned.

I am also not surprised at all at how popular this post was. Everyone here at PGHOFFROAD loves their guns.

When you pick up a gun it needs to be registered in your name. If you buy from a private party, go to your local gun store and they'll transfer it for a small fee. You don't need a carry permit to own a gun, only if you're carrying. I would get one anyways, you never know when they'll stop issuing them.

If you win a gun at a gun bash, they will do the transaction through whatever store organizes the gun bash. When I wont a shotgun last year, I had to go to the store the next day and pick it up. They ran my background check and registered it to me at that time.

That one is actually my roommates but Ive shot it many times.

It is definitely a decent handgun. Not too heavy or bulky and was fairly accurate. When he gets home I'll ask him some more about it as he has played with it alot more than I have and can offer a better opinion.

He got it at the gun store up the street from our apartment, theyre actually a surplus handgun and I believe he got his for right around $300.

www.aimsurplus.com used to have some on there for sale but I dont know if they have any more at the time.

The gun bash is pretty much a mixture of both. The ticket you buy to get into the place buys you food and drinks for the evening and automatically enters you in the 12 drawings (could be more or less depending on the set up) throughout the night. Then you can also buy tickets for other drawings such as cash prizes and other outdoor "equipment" and or course you can buy whatever the venders are selling. All of this is a great fundraiser for a firehall in this instance.

What does someone do with an assault rifle? It is purely for collecting and to have some fun shooting it? I'm guessing you don't deer hunt with most of those. This is NOT an anti-gun or anti-assaut rifle post by any means. I just don't own any and never really had much desire to own one -unless you're on active duty or its full auto, I don't get it. Maybe I just need to shoot something a little "cooler" than what I own.

When I was young my father told me he would never own a rifle he couldn't hunt with in Pa. He finally came to his senses. They are just damn fun to shoot. In some cases they are part of history as well. Think about this as well, guns hardly ever go down in value if taken care of.

REDjp500, just bustin' your stones anyhow :). Although, if you did want to sell, hit me up :)
I have the PT140 (nice carry gun IMO) & fun to shoot as well.

I kind of figured that, no big deal. I first looked at the gun and I wasn't all that impressed, but I shot it and really liked it. I was also told that I would be very dissapointed if I did go to sell a gun by the amount of money I would get out of it. I am most likely going to keep anything that I get anyway, you can never have too many guns!

Your close...they are fun to collect and shoot. I also build most of mine. I've bought many demilled parts kits from various Eastern bloc countries. Buy a domestic receiver and build the gun. Its a sense of satisfaction for me.......to take a box of parts and build a gun. Many of these have seen action prior to being demilled. There is definately some history there. Some of my builds have also tripled in value. Plus they are just pretty damn cool.

So I guess it's more about the hobby for a lot of people more than the guns? Spending way too much money on something you don't need, now that I can appreciate.

It's purely a hobby for some people. Just like modifying a Jeep to handle better off road. Some people out there might say what's the point in building up a Jeep and putting all that money into it if you're just going to get it dirty every now and then. Or why bother building an off roading vehicle if you can get from point A to point B by using a paved road. Purely a matter of opinion for some people.

As far as I go, I like to collect guns to shoot for fun. There is definitely alot of heritage and history involved and it's something you can talk about with a variety of people. My roommate is even worse than me and is a complete gun nut, a few of those rifles in the picture I posted are his. He's PA National Guard and so we always get together with his buddies and go shooting and some of the stuff people bring out is pretty cool.

Oh another great reason for gun ownership....stress relief. Its amazing how a bad day can suddenly turn excellent when you send a few rounds downrange.

Sure is, similar to yours in your picture just with a black synthetic stock.

We also put a synthetic stock on the SKS. It was my roommates decision and it had original matching serial numbers so we tried to talk him out of it but he went through with it anyways.

Whats that rifle on the far right going up and down?

I wasn't asking about general ownership. I do own guns and try to get out to a range as often as I can. I guess it's just like any other hobby... Some people are into it, some people aren't and it is hard to explain to those not into it. Or maybe it's just because I already have so many damn hobbies that I can't let myself even think about another.

I was just making a general statement for any non-gun owners.

Theres definitely days when my roommate and I have questioned owning all these guns, I mean they do just sit around a majority of the time and but when they get put to use its definitely worth it.

And oh btw I am a valid supporter of building up an arsenal for when the Zombies come too, I mean it's going to happen one day, there's no way around it.

So I had to try it...

I shot two AKs and a Barrett .50. If I had the $, I could totally buy a .50 but the AKs didn't do it for me enough to own one. I was surprised at the lack of recoil on the AK though. It was actually really nice to shoot.

Maybe I needed zombies. All I had was a '53 Packard and Osama targets.

I just bought 2 Hi-Point pistols last Saturday.... I know I know what alot of you guys are thinking. You get what you pay for... These guns are just for fun, so I don't F up my more expensive ones though.... But for $300 total for 2 guns, I thought it was good. I've put 50 rounds through both guns so far and no jamming.... I don't understand why people hate them.
