i PM'd both of you guys with my cell and never heard anything back.

Your PM said you and your bro would be there around 11 and if i wanted to show up then cool. Didn't sound like there was a solid time and that you wanted to wait if you beat me.

I just figured i got the shrug off

Haha I'm just joking man. Jason showed up. I honestly don't know how you would ever ride hartwood with a rigid frame. Your hands would be dead.

We found some fantastic stuff there last time i rode there (aobut 3 days ago). flowy fast 29er all the way and almost no climbing.

I'd go but I don't have any fruitboots, I feel like I'd be missing out.

i have both. my paragon is 100mm travel reba race, and my Rig is a rigid 29er (which isn't as bad as a 26), plus the rig is a single speed.

it makes you faster.

Did you buy that fox that was on CL?

Ronin152
11-13-2008, 11:35 PM
No I have not purchased it yet. I am looking at the Reba also. Can't take the coil sprung fork anymore!

J might have his G2 geometry Manitou for sale. 120mm travel, dual air chambers, etc.

it might be going to a friend, but if not i bet it would be reasonable.

I need 100 mm of travel. 120 is too much and would throw off the geometry of the bike. How do you like your reba?

it's ok. i don't know if a 26 is different than my 29, but i'm pleased with mine.

Are you a big dude? they do get a bit of flex to them. the foxes are supposed to be more rigid. by flex i mean forwards and backwards when you're on the brake hard.

other than that i'm happy with it. Dual air chambers are nice.

No I'm not to big. I rode a Tora and liked it alot so I figure a Fox or Reba will be out of this world.

oh for sure then. Tora is pretty entry level compared to the fox RL and Reba race.

i'm kicking around buying this

Done already. Plus its alotttttt easier to work on a bike rather than a truck.

Ya i'm going to do a long term willys (similar to the one i had and sold). The JK just needs to stay on 33's and get me to work and back.

either 2a or MB
CJ5 frame
springs designed to minimize axle wrap.
Mildly built injected 350 (but this time with a real wiring harness)
not sure what trans yet
Atlast Tcase
D60's
5.38's again
39.5's

all that fun stuff. But to be honest, right now with all the work on the house and 1/2 the garage being a giant paint booth for all the doors/woodwork in the place, i don't have the room.

I've been slowly collecting the necessary tools though.
Plasma cutter
Welder
misc hand tools
Installed gas heater in garage
Engine hoist
couple of nice jacks

a tube bender is on the list. Probably going to split it with a buddy.

I just want to build this one differently than the last. I'm sticking with leaf springs though. i'm sold on em.

so anyway, back to the bikes. This is just one more thing. Once you get hooked it's hard to let it go. And i can build them comfortably in my basement which has become bike central. I can go rip through the woods and it's free, it's good for me, and it's a helluva good time.

my basement has pretty much been taken over by bikes. I should take a pic. there's 6 bikes down there at the moment. All in different stages of being built/dismantled lol.

Plus a few shelves worth of parts.

you get hooked man.

I guess I will never understand then.

it's just one more thing to be into.

add that to the kayaks, the jeep, the guns, the geocaching, the camping, whatever. it's just toys.

Jeeps are a helluva lot of fun too, don't get me wrong. But building these bikes is a totally different thing.

I have 2 1970s schwinns i'm turning into fixies. that'll put my total at 8 bikes in my basement....

it's getting ridiculous.

What happend to the days of getting a Wal-mart bike and riding it. Dont get me wrong I think dumping money in to a bycicle is cool and all, but for me thats money for the heep.

Ronin152
11-14-2008, 01:16 AM
Trust me it makes a big difference. Try riding over rocks all day on a bike from Wal-Mart and see what happens. Its the same principle behind the reason people upgrade there jeeps. In order to do more stuff.

I used to be into bikes but not on the same platform as you guys are talking about. I used to ride freestyle bmx pretty heavily and dirt jumping was my main focus. I know what can get involved with building up a bike (at least for my style) and it was definitey a fun and involved process. Just like the Jeep world there are mods and companies to avoid, parts that are more beneficial than others, etc.
