PMags

I don't even have them in my posession at this point, but I will in just a few hours. Thanks Jenn for not only picking them up for me, but for actually finding them in stock somewhere. These things are going for about twice the MSRP right now because of the huge demand.

I had pretty much called just about every dealer I know if locally and not one of them had any in stock. On top of that Wrecker picked up six of them actually BELOW MSRP just a couple of weeks ago at the gun show we went to.

Do you really need all that if your not in the military?

Absolutely.

Do you really need an offroad-capable vehicle when we have all of these paved roads to drive on?

No I just mean most of the time your going to be doing your shooting at a gun range under cover and in a clean area. Why waste the money when you can just buy a regular mag. You won't be rolling around in the sand, getting the gun run over by a truck, or getting bullets shot at it?

Actually, the reason that I wanted the PMag had nothing to do with the dirt issue. The PMags (at MSRP) are actually cheaper than the metal OEM magazines, more reliable, and last longer. Because of the design of the magazine itself you can actually leave it completely loaded with ammo without the worry the malfunctions that the metal mags produce when left loaded too long. Its an overall better product for a better price. It really is win - win.

Oh i thought they were more expensive. Well in that case yeah by all means go for them.

Bill
12-04-2008, 02:51 PM
MSRP on a 30 rnd PMag runs about $18 windowed, $14(ish) non-windowed. A 30 rnd metal mag can run from $15-$30, depending on manufacturer.

They had a few of those at the gun shop nearby, I'll swing by later and see how much he's selling them for.

Man if I had known you guys were looking for some extra mags though my roommate and I just sold off like 20 spare AR mags that we had laying around and didnt really need.

With the PMags, I will have 8 total. 1 CMMG, 2 C-Products, and 5 Magpul PMags. I'll probably buy a 90 round drum mag at some point too! :flipoff2:

The guy that I think had the PMags had a drum mag too! I couldn't justify spending the money on it knowing that I would have to pay for all those rounds as well.

Justin + suitable target + mag w/ lots of ammo = empty really quickly

Exactly. I just found out I already have an RCBS reloading rig, with about 4" of dust on it! LOL.

This thread is motivating me to put off stuff the rest of the day and go shoot!

Bill

Well, the gunshow this morning in Youngstown has me motivated. As the AR sits right now the removable carry handle has been just that, removed. The VLTOR front rail system has been added and is very, very nice. The MI flip up rear sight has been added as well.

Picked up a pack of 20 B-27 targets ($13.50) for the pistol range and met some great folks from Snake Run Sports & Police Supplies in Koppel. The folks there were friendly, have and unreal amount of industry knowledge and amazing prices.

www.snakerun.com (http://www.snakerun.com)

I am sure I will be doing a lot of business with them. The ammo prices they are offering are better than anywhere else out there.

I am sure I will have some pictures of the AR up soon enough.

hey Bill, Nice Avitar or an AR/M-16 bolt face. Where did you find it?

Bill

I used a software program called snag-it to steal it off of AR15.com

Bill just seeing that avatar made me go through all the steps of disassembling an M-16 in my head.

I hated removing the mother F'ing Hand Guards!!

Bill
12-08-2008, 05:50 PM
Mine is much easier to remove now that I have the VLTOR handrail on iit now. (Well, at least the bottom is easier to remove.)

It's the UTG handguard fro cheaper than dirt. $60 Not a piece of junk. The fore grip is by UTG as well, that I'm not sure about yet.

I have read a lot of reviews on the UTG handguard, I actually considered it at one point. For the price you can't beat it.

The next in price was $130 and I couldn't figure out what made it better. I figured for $60 I would try it and return it if i didn't like it. The foregrip is a folding model, and it slides back and forth in the rail grooves about 3/16".

I also got a forarm tool, a front sight tool, and a cleaning kit.

Bill
12-09-2008, 12:09 AM
Steve may want to borrow that tool later this week. We did mine without the tool, but it was a pain in the ass.

I'll be fine without the tool. I had the whole gun apart just now. Every single piece...its cake.

Now I need more ammo...

I smell another destructothon.

Bill

I bought them at Ambient Weather, (www.ambientweather.com (http://www.ambientweather.com)) probably the most unlikely place to find them. They were just over $100 for 6 of them (windowed) shipped to my door.

EddyB

They don't seem to have them anymore. You should sell those stupid non windowed ones to me.

Im on the hunt for a few 20-round Pmags now. The 20 rounders are recommended for the tactical carbine courses. I will need to acquire some of them before I take the courses this spring.

Oh, sorry eddyb I am not parting with mags at this point, but Jenn may be able to hook you up. She actually picked mine up for me. One of the places somewhat local to her had them in stock.

Does anyone have any experience or opinions on Stag Arms? Just got one from my wife as a wedding present.

Someone mentioned Snake Run Sports earlier. Definately deal with Chris (owner). He was my neighbor for the last 20 yrs and he's a very nice guy. Great to deal with, knowwledgeable, and good prices. He has everything from body armour to optics, ammo to safes. Anything having to do with firearms, law enforcement, shooting, and gun security & safety.

Doug,

Check out www.ar15.com (http://www.ar15.com). There is a TON of great information on there. You will get all the info you need on Stag Arms.

Chris seems like a good guy. I have had a couple of interactions with him and he has been a stand up guy.

Doug I have nothing but good things to say about Stag Arms. My roommate has a Stag AR and it is top of the line (at least in my opinion)

The gun store we frequent sells quite a few used Stag rifles and everytime we go in there he's got completely new stock because buyers pick them up so fast (and this was before Obama was elected too!!!)

Your wife definitely made a good choice

Just to update this thread since I have added a few things to the AR. At this point I want to add optics and a magpul enhanced trigger guard and I am done with this build and I plan on starting on the next.

Oh, and I bought what I think is the nicest case on the market as far as soft-sided rifle cases are concerned, the 36" 5.11 tactical case.
