well...just because they ask an "arm and a leg"...doesn't mean they actually get that much.

KBB says...

The add-ons only increase value if someone is willing to buy into what you've put on it. Otherwise, its only worth what a stocker would go for.

KBB value + 1/2 of the cost of your modifications is a good place to start. I would pay $4000 for your jeep but then again I wouldn't buy your jeep. Nothing personal.

Book value is book value regardless if you have $10.00 in Mods or $10k in Mods, the insurance industry only will pay book value in case of a total loss. Same goes for banks, they will not give a secured loan for more than the vehicle is worth according to NADA or KBB.

No one usually goes beyond book value. You really shouldn't. It puts you into the vehicle for that much more.

www.edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com) and www.nada.com (http://www.nada.com) will also give you some ideas on values.

So heres a quick and easy answer to your question if your goal is to sell your Jeep

1.) Take price of "arm and leg" sellers.
2.) Price your Jeep below the "arm and leg" price with Or Best Offer attached
3.) Wait for offers to roll in, some may pay the amount you asked some might work it down, it's all about what you're willing to take.

Reason I say that is, while the blue book value may show one price, and people are suggesting not to price it more than the KBB value, see what others are selling their similar XJ"s for (as youve already done) and go below their price. Just because the KBB says my Jeep would be worth 2k (just a guesstimate) doesnt mean I'm only going to sell it for that much if I personally felt that I could sell it for more.

yup, to add on to what Justin said, there's a good mileage 98 on CL with a lift and tires for like 2,000. looks nice. no winch though... so sometimes you work out deals where you keep the winch or something like that...

good luck!

The KBB,edmunds, nada are all a good place to start but not the bible. They are way off on some vehicles...ie Jeep Wranglers. KBB vaulues wranglers fairly low but try getting one at KBB prices. I say look around check e-bay see what they are really selling for then price accordingly. The guys asking the crazy prices for the hi mile ones usualy either end up keeping them or selling them for a lot less than what they want.
Is there any way to return your Jeep to stock? If so sell the mods then sell the Jeep in the end you will get more for it. The mods really don't add any value unless someone is looking for a moded Jeep XJ. A lot of people wont buy a lifted Jeep unless it looks like a mall crawler.

x2 Mods do NOT increase the value of the vehicle. You would be better off selling off all of the aftermarket stuff then selling the Jeep in its stock form, or not sell it at all. I tried selling mine a while back and found out its really not worth it.
