Hi all, I just picked up a 75 CJ5 this past weekend. The PO put a Chevy drivetrain in it. (350, sm465, np205). Its sitting on a dana 60 and 44 on 38 Swampers. My plan is to just get it running smooth and fix the safety issues right now. I just wanna get this thing out in the woods haha.

Here's some pic's of us tearing off the TBI because there was nothing that worked on it:

Thanks...
My last off road vehicle was a fairly stock full size bronco so this is gonna be a little scary for a while.

i went from a 3 inch lift cherokee with 31's to a 4 1/2 inch lift wrangler with 33's. and that took a long time to get used to. lol

Try going from a buggy with coilovers, long arms, and a 105" wheelbase... to a Samurai with a wheelbase of 88" and leafs... That was a SHOCK, haha.

Oh yeah. Around here the trails get real narrow and real deep real quick. I always have bad luck with a long and low to the ground wheeler.

you seem like a prett smart newb. a few of the fullsize guys argue with us about lwb vehicles in the woods.

That's what my twin sticks are for in the LWB, haha.

I might be new to the forums but i've been wheelin for a while. The difference now is that I'm trying to build something that lasts more than a year on the trails unlike my under $500 rigs in the past.

Getting rid of the TBI? I hope you aren't putting a carb on it. If the TBI system didn't work, there isn't much to it for repairs.

I already have a carb and intake and dizzy for it to get it running at the moment, but I really would like to get the TBI working. The 350 is leakin out of a few seals so in the near future i'd like to pull it and give it the once over. The wiring harness is completely shot and there's something wrong with the assembly on the intake. I'm still researching what to do about that whole TBI thing.

Well when you go to dig into it let me know. I adapted the 350 TBI setup on my AMC 360.

You can also check Binderbulletin.com. They have a lot of information in the Injection talk forum.

Thanks, ill definitely need some help with that. For now this Jeep has some safety issues that need fixed. I have no idea what else is wrong besides the poor power steering pump.

Nice CJ...looks familiar. I'd try my best to get the TBI back on there and functional...you can't beat it for simplicity and performance in a wheeler. That thing would be sweet with a nice wheelbase stretch!

Thanks for the comments everyone. This weekend I'm going to try and get it out on the trails and see how it handles. I'm almost positive that i'll end up putting a hyrdoassist steering on it, probably a redneck ram. I think the only part on this thing still Jeep is the body haha. I ordered a wiring harness from Centech to rewire it. There was so many sparks and shorts on the old wiring it scared me.
