I have heard stories that since Mullen has taken over the sherriffs office renwal and new permits have pushing against the 45 day time limit. I mailed my renewal on 3/11 and recieved my approval card today 3/21. Not sure if it's because my current one expires on 3/26, I got lucky, or because they sent my renewal papers 20 days late. Either way I am suprised I got it so fast.

For those of you who havn't been down there in a while, it's a two step process now. For both renewals and new issues. When I got mine 5yrs ago it was in and out in 20 min. Now you have to submit the app either by mail, e-mail or in person then wait for the approval card (or denial letter) then go back down to pay and get you picture taken. Kinda pain in the ass if you do it in person as you have to park twice. Mail seems to be the best way, but still a pain compared to what it was a few years ago.

Just an FYI if anyone else is about ready to renew.

True but I was in and out in 5 minutes in Armstrong County. They had everything ready, Snapped a pic, Printed the card and I was on my way.

It varies by county. It up to the sherriff to determine the procedure for getting it so long as it doesn't take more than 45 days to get either an approval or denial.

I wonder when they changed from a walk in and get it to the two step process. I got mine 4.5 years ago and it was nothing more than fill out the paperwork, pay the $26, get your pic taken and out the door with the card.

yea i got mine renewed about a month ago and def was a 2 step process.

When I was in westmoreland county you just walked into the the court house filled out the form and walked out with the permit. However, if they reviewed your records/references and decided that you shouldn't have one, they would void it and had to be collected/destroyed.
