Whats the inspection law on rocker panel rust on XJs? None? Legal if cut out and replaced with square tube?
i think as long as they are sealed, like will not let in anything from the outside you'll be fine. But like any inspection question, it depends on the mechanic
I am almost positive they have to be oem style. Its been a while since I have taken the test but that is what comes off the top of my head. Of course I have had a few railbenders too.
You should be ok as long as their is no open holes into the cab. By the book if it's not oem they have grounds to fail it, but as long as it's done well most places will pass it.
If the tube does the job that the OEM rockers would otherwise do, and your mechanic is a common sense type of person, you should be ok. Holes into the cab, as noted above, are key. Make the tube look nice and professionally installed and cross your fingers.
I've seen stuff with new stickers that has whats obviously just duct tape and bondo, I don't forsee a big issue as long as it's sealed good like already stated.
Differs from tech to tech Mike, as long as everything is buttoned up and no holes go into the cab then you should be fine, just make sure your bumper is in one piece. The PA inspection book does not say one thing about homemade bumpers should be failed......
Sweet thanks for all the info. I kind of figured the same as what everyone said.
duct tape painted over with por-15 = badass
Just need a temp fix to pass inspection. They will be replaced with some metal in the near future. But first we have to buy it. 2 weeks. :)
