Aluminum vs Steel Skid Plates
I'm looking at Under Cover Fabworks for my tummy tuck/skid plate setup and had a question. I really like the Aluminum skid plates because of the weight savings, however I want to make sure I'm getting adequate protection. I know both of the steel skid options (3/16" & 1/4") will hold up on my TJ, no questions asked. And I know the heavier aluminum plate skid will also work, BUT, do I need to spend the additional $$ on the heavier aluminum skid? The two aluminum options are 1/4" and 3/8", and both are 6061-T651 Aluminum plate. It seems like the website is inferring that the 1/4" aluminum is comparable to the 3/16" Steel, and the 3/8" is comparable to the 1/4" Steel; but I really would prefer a more absolute answer. Anyone familiar enough with this that can help clear this up for me?
