Tearing into the Heep tomorrow (Head Gasket job)

Yup, the head gasket finally went in the Jeep. Im tearing it all down and replacing it. Also going to be doing a few other jobs while im at it. The power steering pump has been whining like a little B!tch ever since I replaced it so im putting a mopar one back in it. (Fawken hate Advanced Auto Crap) Its also getting a new water pump as preventitve maintence. Tomorrow should be fun!!

Stay tuned, oh and for those of you who could care less toss some cards in a hat!

I hope you are getting it at least checked and fluxed. You make it sound like this is a 1 day job.

That power steering pump could be from a bad job of pressing the pully onto the pump. Make sure you take your time with it. I over did it once and it whined like that and eventually blew it's guts out.

The head is ok the gasket blew from being over heated, it would have been a one day job if I had a deep well 12 point 13mm 1/2in socket :bang: The only bolt I snapped was the one on the compressor, turns out it didnt need to be removed anyhow... Oh well it should be back up and running tomorrow. I have pics of the teardown and I'm typing this on my iPhone so I'll get them up later tonight. Had to stop out to get drunk so I could drive home

    That was a joke...

    im on it!
Just after I popped the head off... Check it out! Cyl. 3 filled!

    Lets get a closer look!

No more head, story of my life...

Cleaned off the old gasket material

New revised gasket, its a bit differet from the one I ripped off.

    Another look!

And this is how the Jeep is sitting. Being 5'8" and working on a huge rig is a bit difficult, so ditch the huge rubbers and drop it on the floor.

I would have had it up and running tonight, but like I said in the previous post, I was missing the right socket. Oh well tomorrow is another day.

That's weird it looks like the intake and exhaust manifolds are on the same side.

That's the new manifold flip kit. It gives more room under the hood, and adds 30hp.

    Just joking

Well not only do I own a Yota, Nissan, and Honda but your average inline motor is designed with the intake and exhaust on opposite sides.

I think you did get a bunk motor, it blew the head gasket.

I actually sell the intake flip kits at an affordable price if anyone is interested I can do group rates for cheaper. So that way if you have a 4.0 you can flip it back to what looks normal to people like me.

It's not bad, but you got to do it on a lift from underneath.

What year is this? If it's 2000 - 2001 I'm not surprised. Although I'm sure you're familiar with the "bad" yrs.

    Either way, good work!!
