    Sealing a leaky trans pan...

So my transmission is leaking from the pan. One of the bolts is stripped out and took the insert out with it. Now it leaks like crazy. I bought a filter kit since I just put it in and its a junkyard tranny.

My question is should I just RTV with the black RTV I got or use the gasket as well and RTV both sides?

I always use black RTV, never the gaskets: could never get a gasket to seal as well. Never had a leak with the RTV, just prep it VERY WELL.

Trans fluid will eat the RTV almost as fast as it drys. Use a healthy bead of "The Right Stuff" sealent. Make sure to get around the broken bolt. I can guarantee that it won't leak again.

Edit: I was referring to the Red RTV. It turns to puddy with trans fluid.

Also, apply the RTV or Right Stuff to the tranny, not the pan. It's a little more difficult but it's too easy to smudge the bead while trying to fight it back up there. Then you're doing it all over again. Ask me how I know LOL

Looked for a helicoil and only found very large ones.

Alright so after getting it all apart and scraping the cork gasket off... I used the gasket and RTV on both sides of it. I also put a bolt through the hole that was empty and put a nut on the backside of it. I guess Ill find out if it leaks in the morning when I look under it. Lets hope not.

as long as she can read (and I don't mean braille) and keep you organized but I doubt you will find one that meets your requirement and your request.
