Cool Trail Ride: Help me decide and join!

    Hey everyone,

I'm planning on taking my dad on his first trail ride one weekend soon. I had 3 places in mind, but wasn't sure where to go... We kind of just wanted to do a 1 day trip, like leave early saturday morning, come home in the evening. Just a day of wheeling is plenty for him. Here is where i was thinking:

    1. Allegheny Natl Forest - about 2 1/2 hours away. Are the high clearance vehicle roads here suffcient for some decent wheeling? Didn't want to get too extreme with dad. Never been to the forest either.
    2. Rausch Creek - furthest at about 4 1/2 hours. Suggestions? Never been here.
    3. Connelsville - about hour 15 mins away. Not to familiar with the area, been on the main trail - Caprisis rd or whatever its called. Ha.

What would you suggest? Def need somewhere legal and not too tough, more want to introduce him to it and enjoy the day.

Any one interested in joining once we figure it out? Ha want to be with a few other people..

    Thanks for the input everyone.

The A.N.F. is all dirt roads. The so called "high clearance" roads aren't that bad.A lot are gated. If a road isnt marked or numbered, they are presumed closed.(the club Im in is got a petition to try to get trails like the ATVs)So if ya just wanna to ride around and take in the scenery (and probably wont need 4wd)then thats fine.R.C. is great, and they got by-passes around most of the hard stuff, and Ive never been to Connellsville.I grew up ridin in the ANF,been all over that one.Hope this helps

You should hit up Rock Run in Patton this weekend. It's a guided ride.

RC is also a fantastic place to ride. You'll need a partner to get the 2 vehicle minimum.

I know you said that your dad would only want to do a one day thing, but you could bring him along for the day/night and the wheel the next day too.

I can't do something this weekend, even though BeavRun is quite close.

Eh, I wanted something a lil more than just dirt roads, which is what ANF sounds like.

I'm not familiar what the terrain is like in Creek Falls? Where is that located? Advanced? or more of a laid back ride? I have a stock Rubicon.

Though it can definitely be a good time, Crick falls may be one to skip with your dad on his first trip out IMHO

Rock Run would definitely be a good one for him though!

For what he is wanting to do with his Dad I'd say its a bad idea

    I had a open diff'd, 2" BB'd, 31" tire'd ZJ through there no problem in the past.
But I also had water halfway up my doors on the crossings, was covered in mud, & knew 100% NOT to leave the main trail if I wanted my vehicle to keep moving under its own power
