    Exclamation Need transmission help

I have a 93 YJ (4.0 man) and just a week or two the tranny started to shift hard and will grind going into 3rd down shifting from 4th and so on till 1st. When im in 5th and let off the gas is sounds like the bearing is shot and ready to blow. (syncros and bearings) fluid is full. Anyone have this happen?

Also, will different trannys fit on the 4.0. I wanted to know if a tranny off a tj might work or even off a truck . iv been looking but cant seem to find a whole lot of info and im sorta new to the jeep stuff, i got stuck in honda world

Hmmm, fluid been changed or does it look like mud?

TJ tranny's will work with some small changes (not really sure what), the TJ's NV3550 is a great tranny from what I understand, but stay away from the 6 speed from what I hear.

check this sites knowledge section out, lots of GOOD info.

Sounds like you have a bearing going out, or already gone.

The NV3550's in the TJ's are pretty stout. They have a higher input rating than the 6speeds. The 6 speeds are nice for the extra gear but you loose some in durability. I've heard that the 6 speed is more like a car tansmission and the NV3550 is a truck transmission. The NV is noisy, but durable.

Thoes are your best bets for easiest upgrades. Probably woudn't be a straight swap but would fit the best.

Thats what he has now I'm sure.

Good trans, but manuals are frequently neglected therefore leading to failure.
