    4Runner build up time

I will start with a little background. I bought the 4Runner in 2000 when I was living in LA and it was my daily driver. in 2004 the truck needed so much work that i didn't have time to do so i bought a car and shelved the truck. i was able to get her on the road in 2005 but when i moved back to PA I needed to pass inspection but with a baby, new house ect... not so much.

so here is the truck as she sits now.

I have a 3 day weekend starting friday and I am going to try to get her ready for inspection. here is the stuff that needs to be done.

    horn---- DONE
    mudflaps ---- DONE
re-attach front brake lines to the frame ---- DONE
    wipers
    battery (or 2) ----- 1 DONE
    exhaust ------ DONE
    attach bushwhacker fender flares----- DONE
Finish and mount front bumper ------ DONE

here is the big list of stuff I have and would like to do

    mount winch ------ DONE
    install dual batteries
    install winch controller
    mount nerf bars
build rear swing out tire carrier
    mount horse collar bar
make room for tires in fender well
    install 63" chevy rear springs
install axle truss thing i bought in 2006

I think that is about it I am hoping that this thread will give me a little motivation.

    thanks,
    Jeff

I was able to clean the garage enough to uncover the 4runner and do a little work on the front bumper.
the good news is that the kerosene turbo heater does a good job heating th garage.
I am headed to buy 2 batteries and some sort of battery tray for the second one. after reading the whole battery thread I still don't know what I want.
I hope to have the 12vguy dual battery set up today if I can figure out how to wire it, my brain hurts from reading the instructions.

I got a new battery installed, fixed the horn, got my ARB air compressor working only to find out that it needs a new seal.
the bumper is ready for final placement then i just have to trim the from plastic to get it to fit.

the truck is real solid. the body is in great shape, the frame has rust on it but it is all surface i am probably going to scrape it down and put on POR 15 or something like it.

The front bumper is installed complete with working turn signals and a working winch.
here is a teaser picture when it is light out I will take a better one.

I was able to get everything (crossing fingers) done for inspection. I just dropped it off so i will find out tomorrow.

after not even starting the truck for 2 years it started up no problem.

here is a pic of the finished bumper

I made the mistake of taking my truck to monroe to have them fix the exhaust. it took all week and then they said that they couldn't fix the manifold gasket because they couldn't find one.

they also gave me a list of every little thing that is wrong for it to pass inspection. "rear disk breaks were not a option on your truck so you are going to have to change them back to drums to pass"
I am going to take it to another place and have them look at it.

    **** MONROE.

Every experience I've had (or have heard about with them) has been the same thing. Take your vehicle in for one thing, they can't fix that....but there are 10 other things they "found" that need addressing before they would pass it for inspection. And conveniently they are easy high margin jobs, like brakes, oil, or belts, etc... LOL assclowns! I brought it in for an EXHAUST LEAK LOL

Women have clothes and shoes....we get welding and tools!....and the women!

Well today started out very productive. I replaced the seal on my ARB air compressor, fixed the passenger seat, started working on fixing my intermittent headlight problem with info from 4crawler link
well i get it all apart and find a solder joint that had come apart.

so... after i get everything back together. nothing works. and when i say nothing i mean nothing. when i try headlights and blinkers i get a rapid clicking (solenoid?) and my tach arrow starts to slowly move backwards. the truck also will not start or turn on any of the accessories. i started reading the factory service manual electric diagrams but it gave me a headache.

I would appreciate any troubleshooting info.

    thanks,
    Jeff

so... I gave up trying to get the truck to start on my own and had AAA to her to Gibbs Auto service and DMG did a great job fixing her up for inspection.

After i got her home yesterday I put on the real tires so i went from this...

    to this

next up on the list is to weld on the rock sliders, build a rear bumper, and try to remove some frame rust and POR 15 it.

i need to go on a trail soon.
