How much clearance do you have?

With all the talk about how small a tire you can run with a dana 60 so it's not a anchor for non comp rig got me thinking about other axles clearances to. How much ground clearance do you have? measure from gound to lowest piont and from ground to center of axle or hub. I'm not trying to be a dick and start a fight just curious about some tech. My rubicon 44 is 10.75 to lowest piont and 16.25 to center line of axle tube with 36 irok radials @ 30psi.

I have never measured from the ground up, as my tires are normally at about 4psi. However, I do know, measuring from the axle center line to the lowest point on the diff (its been shaved flat), I have more ground clearance with the Ford 9in then it did with a D35!

Toyota axles on 38 TSL/SX's at 8 psi.
11.5 inches to the bottom (Not shaved) and 16.25 inches at the centerline of the axle.

Is that even possible? Maybe i'm confused and not thinking clearly.

    33" tires /2 = 16.5" to axle centerline...in a perfect world. More likely less.

Are you saying that the bottow of the pumpkin is only 2.5in lower than that?

11" to bottom of diff 15" to bottom of axle tube dana 44. 36" iroks @22 psi and a good bit of wear

this is a great thread idea, gives hard evidence to the boat anchor theory. looks like there really may not be as much difference as once thought

Best way to compare is take the difference between the bottom of the diff and axle centerline. That will eliminate the uncertainty of tires.

While this number may only be around an inch, that inch you will probably notice.

Thats why I was looking for the ground to axle center line measurement to. then just subtract the 2 numbers and theres your diff clearance. Plus the ground to axle center line will tell you what your tires measurement really is.

I wasn't trying to go after just the 60 swap. I was looking for all axles like the 30, 35 ,sammy axles or what ever. I just wanted to find out some tech for anyone looking to do any kind of swap and maybe show how much clearance you lose being aired down or that your 33 isn't really a 33. I hope that I'm not coming off like a dick to anyone thats not what I'm going for just trying to find out some tech on all axles no matter what your running or want to run.
So lets see some other axle measurement no matter what it is.

I actually measured mine this weekend, running 40" with 8psi

D60 13" to bottom of diff, 18" to the center of the tube
14B 12" to bottom of diff, 18" to the center of the tube

both of the axles are shaved also

what do you have to the center of the axle tube? that way it will tell you what the actual tire height is.
