I'm in a bit of a debate on another forum about shock mounting. Using the brackets off a stock xj rear sway bar as a BPE is quite a popular mod. When I think about this mod, I see a problem with it. When mounting the bracket on the upper mount, you are changing the upper swivel mount from forward/back to side/side. The lower axle mount is also a side/side swivel mount. When a leaf spring articulates, it moves forward and back a little and the axle mount for the shock moves left to right as well. This would require having one shock mount that can swivel left to right and one that can swivel forward and back (like the stock is set up). Changing the upper mount so it swivels in the same direction as the lower mount would cause stress on the shock and bushing during articulation.
For the front, it doesn't matter how you mount the lower shock cuz the upper uses a stud that can swivel in any direction.
Am I thinking right?
