Are you hitting the button at the bottom right or the top left of the quick reply box?

Whatever it is, seems isolated to your system. I can't replicate it.

Is there a possibility you are accidentally clicking the mouse wheel (or middle mouse button if you have one or are using a laptop)?

My mouse was setup so that a "middle click" with the mouse wheel opens up a link in a new tab (it originally opened up a new window, but I reconfigured IE to open it in a new tab). Makes for really convenient browsing when perusing a forum -- just middle click on the topics you want to read and it'll put them in their own tab -- so you can just close them when you are done.
