Will having tube fenders remove a Jeeps ability to be "Street Legal"

I'm thinking of having someone fabricate some wicked tube fenders for me (Suggestions on who this should be are welcome) --- but I don't want to take away the ability to drive my Jeep on the street....What should I make sure the fenders have in order to remain street legal?

Also if someone knows who might be willing to whip some up let me know? I'm willing to pay cash but I want to start putting together my build list for the YJ and would like to know what to expect cost wise.

By covering the tires you mean the top and rear right....the front doesn't need covered right

honestly, they are all about the same strength wise, the tube is where the strength is, not the steel covering the tires...buying a set is expensive, you could buy an ebay kit for about 250 shipped to your door

Another thing you might want to add is a side marker light/turn signal.

I don't have any side markers on mine and I have never had problem getting it inspected. And YJ's have turn signals in the grill.

Ed I have tubes on my cj with garden edging (pathetic looking) for flares. I have been pulled over by the state boys in butler and the only comment regarding my fenders was "is that garden edging?"

Like TJBlair said make sure the tire tread is covered and since your YJ has the turn signals in the front you should be good. If you want to go the extra mile you can install a small led for a side marker light. As for function it's up to you and what you want. I have metal cloak tube fenders and I love that fact that they are easily removeable for trail use. Has came in handy for some of the tight trails I like to run.

I'm not in any hurry...so whenever would be fine I'd like to have them by next spring if possible but if not I'd rather have something of quality then have them sooner

I run tube fenders on my YJ ans so far have only been pulled over once in Castle Shannon by the DOT Enforcement Officer. He let me off, but told me if i want to drive it on the street then i need to cover the tires (I already knew this). I have no flares in the front and damn near all of the front tire is uncovered. Factory flare in the rear in which over half of the rear is uncovered. I still wont put flares on it cause i don't drive it enough and hate the look of flared tube fenders.

Here is the only pic I have of the front fenders that kinda shows how much the tires stick out. The fenders are from Sniper Fab with no flare. They use the factory inner fender too, which is very important if your gonna drive it regularly on the street, especially in the winter.
