Probably a stupid gear ratio question

so my new superior d44409 gears say theyre 4.09 ratio. some places say 4.10. is there a difference between them cause im gonna pick up a d30 out of a 4 squirrel tj with 4.10 gears. am i gonna have any issues?? sounds kinda like a dumb question but i wanna be sure before i dish any dough out.

Other than the fact that you will blow a piston through the oil pan and the transmission will lose 3rd gear, you should be fine.

i dont understand why you think your screwed. is it because you think you dont have the right gearing? or axle? or what. i dont know what your saying

when your in low range your not gonna notice .01 degrees less of rotation in the rear. its not even a factor for dd'ing in 2wd

You'll be fine. With 33" tires you have a circumference of pi*d=94.2478" so a 4.10 ratio has a distance traveled of 22.9873" per drive shaft rotation (circumference/ratio) and a 4.09 ration has a distance traveled of 23.0435" per drive shaft revolution, which is a .0562" difference, which is less than 1/16" of an inch. I'm sure with different tire wear and inflation pressures you're seeing more of a difference than that caused by the gearing.

well im not gonna chance it, im gonna call superiors customer service and bi*ch on why theyll sell a gear set for the rear but not sell one that matches the front. maybe ill get lucky and theyll exchange it for me. or else theyre going back to the store and exchanged for a 4.10 set. im just picky and if im gonna spend money i want it to be right. so far ive got 1800 in one axel and ill be damned if im gonna risk it for .10 gear difference. ramble ramble, dont mean to snap or sound sh*tty but im having a sh*tty evening.

Are you kidding? Its a proven fact its not a problem between 4.09 and 4.10. It is 1/100. They are going to laugh at you. Run em and don't worry about it. Your just creating a headache for yourself out of nothing at all....

you realize the tj front end is low pinion right?
It's a 4.0L...no matter what you do, it's going to make a funny noise.

And if you can get a forklift moving at 100MPH on electric, I want in on that project, sounds like a good time!

seth, when i changed the gears in my 30/8.25, to 4:10s a couple of years ago they were off by .01 and i didnt notice a thing. The guy i soild them to hasn't had any problems with them either. IIRC the 8.25 was a 4:11 and the 30 was a 4:10. If that puts you at ease.
