That thought process makes sense, but it just seems to me that rigs with 4Bangers and ultra-low gearing never seem to have troubles breaking stuff on the trails. I do agree that drivetrain torque is obviously a factor, but based on what I've seen and experienced, wheelspeed is what breaks stuff since it tends to create more shock loads.

Also, just to add something into the mix for anyone reading this trying to decide on a rear axle and thinking about doing a 35 spline upgrade...

There ARE dana 60s out there with big bore spindles that do not need to be opened up to run 35 spline axles. One in particular that I was looking at was a Dana 60U a local (to Buffalo) vendor had. Not only did it have big bore spindles, but the bottom was smooth as a baby's bottom from the factory, AND both axles were equal length -- so one spare works for both sides. Besides, of course, the center section, you would also need to get 35 spline axles to "upgrade" it.

Another thing to consider is 83-85 F350's had Dana 70Us behind them that came with 35 spline shafts from the factory and are basically a great width to match with a front HP60. They are more expensive than 60s from the junkyard, but once you factor in cost to upgrade the Dana 60 to 35 spline, they are cheaper. If you get a "U" that's also smooth as a baby's bottom, you lose less than 1/4" of ground clearance over an unshaven 60, already have 35 splines, have bigger tubes, and a stronger R&P.

We will see with the 38.5's, but with the 35's I use double low most of the time. Usually 2nd or 3rd gear sometimes 4th if I need the wheel speed.

My axle was originally a SF35 spline. I broke that shit. lol The first FF30-spline I ever saw break was with a 4 banger too.

Otter actually cuts off the spindles, bores them, then welds them back on with an alignment jig. Easy peazy....as long as you have the right tools (and Otter to weld it).
    Something catchy goes here.

Im not saying that I wont break them. They will damn sure hold up better than the d35 shafts did LOL. We will see how long they hold.

Got the front shocks figured out now I just have to make the passenger side match.

I have a few more things to button up like brakes and drive shafts, But I got the rest of my tires and bolted them up

You cant really notice the stretch in the garage.lol

Nice - that's almost exactly the same WB I got & I think it works very well overall.
