    New winch on the market

What do ya guys think of that? $400 and includes synthetic rope. I don't need it but just came across it on my cherokee forum.

Ya get what you pay for, but it would be better than nothing. I'd have to see how it works to say if it's worth the scratch or not.

This is a better deal, IMO:

On page 2, you can see the "breakdown" of accessories is worth over $300 by themselves. My only experiences in working with "cheap" winches is that they are generally extremely slow. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but sometimes you need to spool out a lot of rope, so having a fast winch is really nice to respool it back up. I love synthetic rope -- you definitely need to take care of it a lot more than steel rope (although you can be a bit more lax in spooling it up), but the benefits (safer, lighter, easier to work with) are well worth it, IMO. I've been meaning to get a splicing kit and learn to resplice the line should mine ever break.

As long as the synth rope is Amsteel Blue, the winch you posted still seems like a pretty good deal -- I just wouldn't expect it to be very fast.

Looks like it would be an upgrade from my harbor freight winch, which works, but is slow as bawlz.

thats a good deal for both the reacon and the RC. but the reacon looks a bit nicer with the integrated solenoid. i got the smittybuilt 8k and it works fine but isint nothing to rave about. i got the lifetime warrenty on it so if it does break ill get a new one.

Same here. I have the XRC8 with the lifetime from 4wd hardware. It was $299 as well. Before that I had a milemarker 9k that I got for 399 and it lasted about 4 years of heavy abuse but replaced the motor twice in that period of time. It was slow as shit too. The XRC8 is quite fast. I hate how the handle is rusted to hell already.

Are there other brands or synth rope that are comparable with Amsteel blue? Both of the winches listed above don't specify which brand of rope it uses.

i got the synthetic rope on mine that came with it. so far no problems with it. i gotta agree about the handle though, mine isint rusty but it likes to stick. when money permits ill get somethin better, but it has to fit behind my arb bumper, which limits what i can use.

I wanna see one in use. I'd like to see the line speed specs too. If it's reasonablly fast, it would be a good deal. Heck the rope n fairlead are near half the cost of the winch. Plus it has a free wireless remote.

you would think that RC would make a winch that was al least dependable, being that they know the offroad market. I'm interested to see how they rate out in the coming future.

From my experience, I say wait at least a year. RC always rushes stuff out the door without enough R&D.
