    Dana 60 axles

I've got the 60 in front of my Ram and it has the disconnect axle like YJs?, I was wondering if I could replace it with an axle out of a new dodge that has the one piece axle, the reason is that it has a delay when you put it in 4wd and sometimes wont engage properly. Also I was thinking if I do that I could put a lock right in the front and it would be the same as my jeep with everything turning in the front end? Gas mileage is not an issue, I just want to have all four wheels spinning. Anyone have any insight into this?

Ive thought about the posi lock before, didn't know if it would take the stress of a locker tho? The truck hops in 4wd open open worse then my jeep locked front and rearnwhen turning in my yard tho, so I wasn't sure if locking it would mess with the disconnect system or the posi lock. I'm planning on locking the rear first but I wanted to get ideas for the front. But the posi lock would be nice to use 2wd low.

I was thinking while at work tonight and the posi lock would be useless if I lock the front end as one axle would always be turning when in 4wd so I couldn't use 2wd low and its still gonna hop like a mofo. Im leaning toward the perm a lock i think that way i know when I pull the lever back all 4 wheels are going to be digging, just have to put it in 2wd to turn haha.

2003+ Dodges do not have Dana axles. They are AAM axles and to my knowledge the parts don't interchange.

The front 60s are something odd like 32 or 33 spline. 1.4? diameter. The AAM axles shaft is supposedly bigger than a 35spline 60.

    there's also a 5 dollar solution...

An engine choke cable to the disconnect
taking unsafe rigs to a whole other level

Always do the 1 dollar solution and just use a bolt, couple washers and nuts in place of the vac motor since he said he doen't care about it spinning all the time.
I'm not completely worthless, I can always serve as a bad example.

Never thought about the choke cable idea, that may have worked but I think the perm lock is the way to go. Do you think there would be any negitive affects from locking the front, besides the turning situation? Everything spins when you drive it anyway so I don't think that would be an issue. It would work just like a locked jeep in theory correct?

I forgot about the newer dodge switching to the aam axles, But my buddy does have another 60 out of a 93 setting around that i'm sure he won't miss an axle haha.

One front axle assembly only for 2003 thru Current Year Ram 2500 & 3500, and that is an AAM 9.25” w/ 1.43” Diameter Axle Shaft & 33 Splines. Here are Rokmen Shafts for the D60 Disc-connect axles and the AAM 9.25”, a locked front axle without a set of manual hub will defiantly get you into trouble when you least expect it if street driven………

How would it be any diffrent then my jeep tho? Everything is locked together any way, the axles are splined to the wheel bearing so they spin which inturn spins the diff then the shaft to the t case, I dont see how it would hurt my street drivng since the front end wouldn't be under power which means the lock right would be able to un lock. Right?

Sorry it took a while to get back, I have a 90 XJ 2Dr Sport w/4.6L Strocker up here with Detroit EZ Locker’s and Alloy shafts F&R as well as a Warn manual hubs conversion. Because with a stock one piece PS shaft and unit-bearings equaled destroyed u-joints as well as axle and/or stub shafts, and it will flex an open D30 carrier until it breaks. You will also get push (under steer), like when you turn your wheels and you keep going straight on slick surfaces or your steering wheel will ratchet on dry surfaces. This is because of the physical characteristics of the knuckle on the shafts u-joints while turning will not allow the unit to disengage. You should hear mine unload the torque to disengage the locker while I’m wheeling, it’s funny when I stop I find some of other guy’s look under my front end to see if it’s still in tacked. Right Highland, like when it unloads at that right hand turn while climbing RR Hill at the Ville………

When I had my 72 Commando (bought from Matt in 08/97, rolled EJS 06) the first D60 under it was from a 78 W-200 non-spindle front end (like your truck but no Disconnect) with a Detroit Locker on hard surfaces it would bind up the Spicer 20 in it, then I changed to a set of axles from a 92 W-250 Cummins which netted me a D60 Front & a D70 Rear. Throw in Detroit Lockers a set of 5:38’s and put on a set of 44” cut Boggers, it earned the nick name of Chewy, need I say why, he’s now a cube that sits in my office at the shop back in O-Town (home)……..

Anything with a disconnect sucks arse IMHO - even if you force it locked or lock it manually, it's still a weak garbage setup & I eliminate everyone I come across as soon as possible (which is quite a few since I primarily play with YJ's! Lol )
