my buddy just accidentally bought a 99 XJ sport at auction with 89k miles. Clean Cloth interior, 231, 4.0
my question is what trans and rear end are in this? He's going to be parting it out but i didn't know what came in those 99 sports.

the trans is most likely the aw4 and the rear end is probably the chrysler 8 1/4. pm me if you know when he is parting it out. i need some parts for my mom's 99 xj

Why is he parting it out? Damage? Flood?
If its an auto, its the AW4. It probably has the 29 spline 8.25" and a HP 30. I think they switched to the LP30 for 2000-2001. It should also have the newer intake manifold that might bring in a few bucks if he decides to part out the engine.

Yes it will fit... its a 8 1/4 nearly 100% sure.
Front is a HPD30... nice swap for a TJ... I might be interested.
The fronts did go junk till mid 2000 when they ran out of HPD30 as the XJ production wound down.
Tcase? Well there is the question.. NP231/NV231 spline count depends on trans or a NP242... I don't think the early NP tcase could found past 93 or 94.
