    XJ Braking upgrades

Been reading alot lately and seems i'm going to do the KJ discs on the back of my XJ and was wondering if anyone else on here has done any kind of braking upgrades to their XJ's or to any type Jeep for that matter...

I've heard Econoline master cyl., Dodge truck one's, 78 Ford 3/4 truck ones, Corvette ones, gutted prop valves, pull a spring and seal from the xj prop valve, put a manual prop valve on, put a ZJ prop valve blah blah blah blah blah

If anyone has any GOOD links or information on this shit post it up! I remember Cheenin is runnin something different on his YJ cuz he cut a whole in the hood so post up some tech guys i'd appreciate it!

I've read the KJ brakes write up before and it makes sense, some KJ's had the 8.25 in the rear and from what i can tell from working on both XJs and KJs there is no difference on the housing ends,

KJ is a direct bolt on I know that, just need to use front wheel studs in the rear axles for full engagement that is all.

I'm curious about different master cyl combinations and boosters, what other guys have tried and had fail miserably or succeeded with, you have any experience with that kind of stuff? Didn't think so...

In my 89 I have a 2000 WJ dual diaphragm booster and master cylinder and prop. valve internals, and then I have a 95 XJ 8.25 rear axle under it with 96 ZJ disc brakes that bolted right on after I ground some material off of the 8.25 axle tube end.

But I'm sure you searched and found my little write up here... http://www.pgh-offroad.com/forum/sho...ght=disc+brake

I guess the jeep stops better but that isn't why I did it. I was fed up with drum brakes. I'd had enough. And I needed a small jeep project while I was living away from home in Ithaca.

I got the zj brakes on my 8.25. The swap was fairly simple, just had to drill out one mounting hole a bit. And I cut the hook end off the drum parking brake lever and welded it to the zj parking brake lever so I could reuse my original cables. If I knew how to post a pic of it I would. As far as master cylinders, I still have my original. I didn't change the proportioning valve either. I've heard of people doing the swap and having issues, so far I've had none and the improvements were well worth it. I'll be selling my whole axle off soon cause my d44 is just about ready to be swapped in.

KJ swap to an XJ is sorta like a ZJ 35c swap is to a XJ/TJ with a 35... the brackets bolt right up. You will a master cylinder designed for 4 wheel disc and a combo/prop. valve for 4 wheel disc.

You CAN plumb in a manual prop valve and leave the rest of the OE stuff(did it on my old 88 YJ) but you still have residual pressure vlaves (keeps the drum's wheel cylinders precharged) in the orginal combo valve that you are working against. Tends to either make it grabby or drag...

My money- get KJ hardware.. rob the master... see if it bolts up to the XJ booster.. if not I think a ZJ master would work right?

Drum Brakes don't really bother me much, just lookin for slightly better performance since I regularly load my cherokee down like a half ton truck.
