    My Mosin Nagant build

    I started out with a standard 91/30

I polished the bolt and added a ATI stock and a 2-7x31 long relief scope.

I'm waiting on my Timney to come and next it's going to the gunsmith to get the barrel shortened. I might switch to a Boyd's stock I'm not to happy with the fitment of the ATI stock.

Looks nice, my buddy has the same stock, it was a bitch to fit up right, lots of time on the dremel. They are fun guns to shoot for sure.

Sounds like what I did to my Mosin, I'll post some pictures later.

I threaded my barrel and put a flash hider and I was getting bad groups, then I noticed the lame ATI stock was pushing on one side of the barrel good, so I sanded that down and it is a lot better. Probably going to use the Mosin for deer. I got 7.62x54R hunting rounds from Prvi Partisan.

It seems like everyone that has the ATi stock has issues with it. I spent some time on it today with the dremel and still have more to do But my trigger did come in today so now it's time to install it.

Nice, I want a full review of that trigger!

    Here is mine:

I painted the stock camo, drilled and tapped the receiver and used a rail from the long eye relief mounting location on top of the hex receiver. I cut and TIG welded the bolt handle and polished every part of the bolt I could, as well as the chamber. I threaded the barrel end for 14x1mm LH AK threads and put on a YHM flash hider.

I ended up mounting the scope like that after being disappointed by first the rail replacing the rear sight, and then I was disappointed by remove the rear sight entirely and mounting rings to the dove-tail rail under the rear sight like it looks you're using.

I have the parts together to make an extended magazine from another mosin rifle magazine with a WASR AK single stack spring and follower, but haven't had time to play with it.

Yours look really good that flash hider is awesome! It's a reel mother fitting the Timney trigger in the ATI stock but it's worth it. I've only dry fired it so far but I can already tell a difference it's like a totally different rifle. Plus I like the fact the trigger is adjustable from 1.5-4 lbs.and it has it's own safety. That extended mag is cool how's the paint holding up on your's? I was thinking about painting mine.

Well after countless hours of sanding and shaping and one Dremel tool I finally got the ATI stock to fit. It's about as good as it gets I'm still not happy with the it fits but it is what it is. I'll take it to the range maybe tomorrow and see how it shoots. I decide to paint the stock I'll post some pics later when the paint drys.

I like both those mosin's. I think i'm gonna build one of these bad boys. Anybody cut one of the full length 91/30's down to carbine length?

Your paint job came out great. My paint has flaked off of anything.

Not uncommon for cut down the full length to carbine length but you have to recrown the muzzle obviously. Shooting that with a cut down barrel will result in epic fireballs and a loud rifle haha. I've shot the M44 carbine version and it is a real treat.

Thanks guys. I haven't cut my barrel down yet but I'm thinking about it. I want to make this a low buck scout rifle so more than likely the barrel will get shortened. I was thinking about adding a flash hider as well?

I've shot the carbine as well and the fireball and sound is ungodly for sure. I am digging the scout rifle setup but a compromise on barrel length for the reasons Josh stated LOL

Nice builds!!! Heres mine (bottom of the pic) and my model 38 above it. I sporterized the orginal stock by adding wood to the forearm and butt. Cut the barrel down and recrowned it. Painted the stock with some automotive textured trunk paint. Your right Josh.....massive fireball out of these, especially when shooting some surplus heavy ball ammo. Fun guns to shoot for sure!

I like that! I didn't even think to modify the original stock thats a good idea. Looks like you have a nice little collection of guns.

If you cut the barrel down and want to thread the end you need a lathe that you can put the barrel through. The barrel at the muzzle right now is almost too thick for a 14x1mm die, and the barrel will need turned down after cutting it down, as the thickness increases towards the chamber. Let me know if you want to borrow my 14x1mm LH die so you can put AK threads on it, if you want to go that route. I tried to make my own bore-aligning piece for the die, but it didn't come out too good, so I suggest you buy one to go with my die if you want to use it and do it right. I can just mail you the die USPS.

busij44, cool peg board set up. I have the peg board set up stored away, just no secure room dedicated to guns in my own place yet. I'm working on a CETME right now, trying to get the bolt gap in spec. Looks like I need +6 rollers and a new locking piece. Are those both Century Arms CETME's you have?

Thanks for the offer I really appreciate it but I think I'm going to take it to a gunsmith. I took the Mosin to the range today and experienced some problems with the scope mounts walking forward on the dovetail. I repositioned them and tightened them down and seems to fine if this occurs again I'm going with a different style mount. it shoots good no sub moa groups lol but was able to hit a 10x10 inch steel plate at 200 yrds. with no problems!

I had that EXACT same thing happen with rings on the dovetail, and I had some damn expensive rings on there. You're probably going to end up with a rifle looking closer to mine...

There was some discussion about those on PAFOA.

Apparently they're pretty beefy for the price but you have to make a recoil pad or they beat the snot out of you.

It looks pretty beefy! Hell I might just build a bullpup mosin instead of a 10/22. Probably be about the same price? I bet that would have some kick to it lol!

I would like to try shooting one...

I thought there was some other con to the stock but I don't remember. Try searching for that discussion on PAFOA if you get a chance.

Josh, top one a stamped receiver Century with HK G3 furniture. One under it is a cast receiver century with original furniture. It was a "post ban" gun with no flash hider (neutered) when I bought it. I changed that pretty quick though.
