    Granfors Bruks retailer?

I am looking for anyone who sells Granfors Bruk axes. I want to get a physical sense of them before I commit to it.
I bought several cheapo axes only to have them fail. Best cheapo I bought was a Boys Axe from Ace Hardware. It finally crapped out so I am in the market for something better. The boys axe held up well but didn't hold an edge at all. I was forever sharpening it.

Snow and Nealley make fine axes as well. You can get them at Bailey's and also don't count Fiskar's axes out either. They make quiet a fine blade.

Only place it looks like we can get Granfors Bruks axes around here is up in Transfer, PA. A place called Kerola Campers. http://www.kerolaltd.com/

And up in State College at Appalachian Outdoors http://www.appoutdoors.com/

I'd call those two places and make sure they have what you want before you drive up to check em out. A little birdie told me that Husqvarna's Axes are made by Granfors Bruks but I can't confirm that. Good Luck!

What will be the main purpose of the axe - anything in particular or just the usual limbing and light splitting? Or you do you want a a maul?

This place supposedly carries GB axes and has a dealer network, although the websites that come up look like they are safety type businesses. Dunno - but there 2 in the area (i punched in 15044 in the zip) - might give you a lead: http://www.grandforest.us/dealers.html

Kerola's really isn't that far from the burgh - an hour drive. Right near Shenango Reservior. You could always take your fishing gear and make a day out of it. Or take a stack of dollar bills and hit the nudie bar in that same stretch of road.

There is a vermeer dealer in cranberry. Other than equipment they also carry a lot of arborist stuff. might be worth checking out/calling. The pros seem to always know what works and what doesn't

I use this axe for backpacking. So it is required for felling trees fro emergecy shelters, splitting logs and a million of other things. I want something smaller so I can lash it to my pack. I want a wooden handle. The GB Small Forest or Hunter's axe fit the bill. I looked back into the Boy's axe and they are super cheap now. Far worse quailty than previous. The Gerber/Fiskars are fine, a friend has 2 he uses and they even have a sharpening puck on the blade cover, but I have seen these fail. I am not down with plastic handles, period. The best axe handle is hickory, hands down. Alot of generic tool manufactures don't use hickory as its pricey. And alot of manufactures are getting the blades from China which is a cheap low quaility steel. Snow and Nealley heads are made overseas but I have not heard much about them pro/con and if the have been around as long as they say, wheres the low down? I want something that will last another 30 years easily.
