If the ticking is coming from the valve train, that's normal. Nothing you can do about it except switch to a heavier oil. Recomend 15-40 rotella
^ I run 15-40 Mobil Delvac 1300 Super Diesel Oil, I love it and the price is right for me too
97 XJ Clayton Longarms 35s locked etc.
94 YJ MTO
98 5.9 ZJ Limited alllll original
02 Cummins 6spd HO Studs, Sticks, Box, Pump...
Common things to replace? Motor mounts. They seem to only last about that long before they start to crack your exhaust.
Not a bad time to replace your o2 sensors as well.

good tips. thanks guys.
now that you mention about a heavier oil, i didnt notice the ticking untill recently after this last oil change, where i used full synthetic. 10w-30.
a bottle of lucas seems to help too
taking unsafe rigs to a whole other level
Mine started a slight tick at about 75k, got progressively louder.... turned out to be a cracked piston skirt. Couldn't tell from an oil change since it was such a large chuck, didn't find it till oil pan was dropped.
But I have had success with this for other applications (it's like molasses)

agreed on the lucas
Lucas is a good additive. I don't use it in the xj but I do use it in my parents cars.
About the full synth oil change, full synth oil is slightly thinner when at temp compared to Dino oil. So that might be the reason you got the tappin. I like the synth blend rotella just cause its got a few more additives compared to straight Dino oil. Plus it's only $1 more than the regular at box-mart.
gotcha. i'll try that next time.
as far a motor mounts go, is a motor mount lift as straight forward as it sounds? that would help correct pinion angle? anything else needed?
