I got an 11 point on November 1st. Field dressed at 180lbs. Hit him kind of low from 30 yards. He ran down a ravine. I slowly stalked him and saw him standing on the other side of a creek. Hit him again at 40 yards and he dropped on the spot. Extraction was a mofo - thankfully i had the winch installed on my quad. This was with my Hoyt Katera XL compound bow.

first ever and i only have a pic on my cell phone. i've gotten two does before. one with a slug gun and then last year one in archery. it was a stupid shot for me to take but i'm somewhat confident at that range from shooting 3d courses so much recently. i always said i'd never take a shot over thirty yards but i couldn't let this one go. i'm pretty happy with myself

I shot this October 27th. He come in posturing on another smaller buck, I shot him at 20 yards and he crashed 7 yards from my stand. 18in. inside, 23.5in. main beams, 10in. g2's, 12in. and 11in. g3's, 5in. brows and bases. Just a rough idea of the measurements. He grossed 144in. and had a 22.5in. neck.

I used to think the same thing about yardage - but i've taken several at 40 yards + the last few years. A fast compound and a lot of practice, and that distance is pretty safe to get a clean kill shot. Anything more than say 50yds (45 is pushing it) I think is a little out of my skill level and confidence, and I'd be more likely to wound an animal - that's the worst. My brother in law shoots semi-pro and I've seen him peg targets all day long at 70yds with a crazy fast bow.

Anyway congrat's on a clean kill on your long shot and on your first buck!! That's an awesome feeling when you finally get that first one under your belt.
