Steel Soldiers friend with Transport trouble in Washington PA

Hey everyone, I got contacted by a SS member early this AM about him being broke down in Washington PA. He needs help and I would but have doctors appt in Butler. Its a 24volt system and he needs either a jump or batteries. I have 2 charged batteries but not sure if I can get to him with all I have to do. Just reaching out to see if anyone can assist in any kind of way. Please give me a call and I can post/call him. I can relate to recovery like this as he is headed to Maine from Indiana state. Thanx in advance, Chuck...412-498-9261

Saw that on there. I doubt I can help, as I don't know a thing about the 931. But if you think I can be of assistance, in the evenings let me know

Kinda sux as I can go there with the batteries, tools, etc.. but no good if I have no idea where he is. This just sux as help is pouring out but no damsel in distress showing up!! LOL

I told him all that and as you know since you texted him your address. He said he is leaving now to try and make it to you there. He still has his old batteries also that you might can charge and he will have them with him just in case. I told him how to make up some lights, magnetic ones from HF, and a push button switch to hit when he is hitting the brakes to make it with the batteries disconnected. Not sure if his truck will still run though. He did say that if it starts, that means his PCB? box should be good. Let me know.

after we hooked up those batteries, it started right up, but the voltage or charging system gauge was low. It was in the yellow. He said when we was driving it before, it went down to the red and that's when it stalled and he couldn't get it going again. I figured that meant the alternator wasn't keeping the batteries charged.

But what do I know? Absolutely nothing about big rigs and 24v electrical/charging systems lol but I did the best I could with the time and tools I had. Hopefully someone can look at it that actually knows stuff about those trucks... I could tell he was a n00b to the big army trucks and working on stuff. I was glad I could help, hope it makes it back.

I'm hoping I wired the batteries up correctly too. Everything was all disconnected when I got there, here's what i did...

Good Job Ty and Josh. Glad we could all come together to help someone in a really bad situation a loooonnngggg way from home. He still has that trip to make to Maine. I'm up on the big green monsters a bit but hard to look at and diagnose on the net. Thanx again!!!

Battery voltage and alternator voltage are good. Truck re-starts without a problem. Voltage gauge still reads yellow but I say good to go. One of the batteries replaced was probably bad and not letting the rest charge since they're in series. That's my guess.

He hung around and charged his phone for about an hour and now he is on the 20 hour drive to Maine. Yeehaw.

He texted me last night and said the starter and alternator died in Allentown. He plans to scrap the truck now I guess. Bummer.

That does really suck as I know we were all trying to get him on his way. I texted him about 15 minutes ago to see how he was doing and haven't heard anything back yet. Dang, I hate to hear all that. I know the alternator is the same as our deuces and am guessing the starter too. He is near a place up there he should be able to get both. Oh well~

He is also now worried about driving without a CDL or registration as he heads into some of the most highly patrolled highways in the northeast. He made it this far lol. I wish it would of died at my place so I could take those tires and super single my deuce. Those were sweet.

That seems silly to scrap it over a starter and alternator. Was this truck in rough shape otherwise?

Hell yea they were, they looked damn new too

Truck didn't seem to be in very bad shape to me. I'd drive it. IIRC, I think he said he paid $1800 for it, so I'm guessing he's thinking he won't take that huge of a loss if he scraps it. Is $1800 right tho? They really go for that cheap?
