Project-yet-to-be-named. I'm back in the game.

I'll make a build thread later - but the summary is, well... This jeep is a whore. It was an 86 MJ bought by MF Steve - gutted and replaced with parts from a 90's (96?) donor XJ - abandoned by MF-Steve at DMG's Shop - then sold, then sold again, and now waiting for being finished in my garage. It needs some love. And after breaking a brake line on the way home, it needs brakes. It sure was unloading it to find no brakes though, in a vehicle with seats that aren't even mounted. I fell out, but all is well now. More to come.

It's been a couple of years since I've really been able to wheel or have a good project.
    That changes now.

    Leaving Ralph's:

The parts were from a 99 XJ. I would suggest just dropping the wife part of its moniker and calling it the Beater.

I thought it was yellow? Or just the motor was painted yellow? I hope it finally gets done!

I hope it gets far enough along by the time I get back to be able to be driven on the trails.
Congratulations on the purchase. I am excited to see what you do with it.

I'm shooting for a spring-time/early summer finish - I'm not in a rush to start on it right now. I just yesterday cleaned out my garage from the move, I still need to get the tools put away, wire up the air compressor and welder, all of the usual project necessities. It'll be my "beater" but it's not going to be a POS trail junk either. I really needed a truck for all of the house projects and just moving things around. I'm sick of paying for delivery fees and loading landscaping into a WJ. I figue this way I have a cheap truck that I can also wheel. It's a win-win - although as Ryan pointed out, that means trying to reverse engineer 4 peoples work, haha.

Luckily DMG probably has all of the answers since Steve was doing it in his shop in 2007.

The only thing I've done so far is play with the electrical a bit. Some time's it'd fire fine, some times it struggled. The battery posts were clean, but there was so corrosion on the terminal connections I"m surprised that it even started. The battery's been barely connected for who knows how long.

There is a pcm or relay ground on the floor that needs redone. That should make it start.

Nope, it is all 99 drivetrain, interior, etc. We had the keyless entry, airbags, gauges, etc working.

Ralph, did you use the door strikers I cut out of a new style Cherokee to make the new doors work?

I was so tempted to buy this back but I have a bunch of other projects going right now.

I have the XJ doors and door strikes are in the truck bed - it still has the old MJ doors on it. One of the doors is missing the interior panel - can you keep an eye out for me if one comes through the shop? Passenger side?

I'm hoping to make this a quasi-DD all said and done. Might even find carpet for it - definitely putting in the working radio I had from the 1997ZJ, pounding out some of the dents, having Shane paint it up, etc.

I might be! No rush, I'm not really going to be part collecting until winter. I'm still just getting the garage setup and trying to finish yardwork before winter at this point.

Who said anything about non runnin? Runs great now that I cleaned the battery terminals. It's the lack of brakes that concerns me.

Justin - i might - i think the interior was black/charcoal but I'm not sure under all the dust yet!
