    2015 f-150

Looking for a new truck, wanna get rid of the daily driver Cavalier and the Chevy 2500hd as a general work truck and just combine into one vechicle. Been looking at 2010 and newer trucks with extended cabs. Anyways reading I'm seeing the new f-150s are now aluminum frames and bodies(not sure what parts exactly), which makes them lighter, and supposedly more fuel efficient. I haven't seen this in print yet but aluminum doesn't rust either...
Anyone have any seat time in one of these? I know nothing about the newer motors or vehicles. Want something I can haul my quad with, or pull my fishing boat, haul building materials or dirt in and still daily drive(>6 mile trip to work). School me on any of the newer trucks please. Probably be spring when I buy but already shopping around.

You already named all the benefits. Would a new Colorado do the job too? Might be another option.

You're going to be in for some sticker shock, not matter what new truck. IMHO, it's hard to beat the 10-13 GM half ton for its drivetrain - LS and 6L80 and parts availability. The prices have dropped now that the 14/15s are on the lot.

Someone mentioned yesterday that insurance companies are speculating that insurance rates for Fords with new aluminum bodies will go through the roof. Parts to repair them will be more expensive and there aren't many body shops with aluminum experience. When the repair shops can charge a premium the insurance liability goes up.

Looked at and have a few hours seat time in a 2012 Silverado (Dads truck) the interior is nice the seats are alittle hard, the motor is that 4 to 8 cylinder fuel saver(offhand cant remember which) only averages 13-14mpg(no stop and go city, just country driving), it seems to hit into 8 cylinders at odd times and seems underpowered alot. It is probably the least expensive of the bunch but not sure if its really worth the savings compared to the 2500 I curently have that has shit loads of power. Are there other motor options that are better than that one, he got an off the lot left over one so it my have just been an undesirable truck.

Tom, that's a good point something I definitely wouldn't have thought of. I am not gonna lie I saw aluminum and got excited at the though of no rust and just went with that. Will have to put a call in to the ins agent before I look to hard at one of these.

Ryan I have the 6.0 in my 2500, love everything about that truck except the mpg and the battle with rust.

Will be interesting to see how many people have an aluminum body panel rot away after grounding something to it. Other than that, I like the trend.

I usuallly get 12mpgs running 93 and a small tune on my 6.0. However, my engine light just came on saying bad O2 sensor and now I'm getting 18 to 19 mpgs all day long. I think its running lean. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

    Okbye.

I get about 12 around town, 16-17 on the highway and 11 towing a trailer. For a 3000 dollar truck with a Big Block I cant complain lol.

That's the cylinder deactivation kicking in. No big deal. You can easily ditch that. Does have a 4.8L? They aren't the peppiest of the bunch. I have the L76 6.0 (alum block) which hauls ass and gets an honest 16mpg all day long. 19 on the highway at 70. That's with the crew cab and cap. The 5.3L is a dandy motor too. The ass hauler is the 6.2L, but they are pretty hard to find.

I found out why I was getting such great mileage....the CAI came off of the intake. I guess the clamp was loose. It bypassed the MAF sensor causing a lean condition. I replaced the O2's and intake and now I'm back to shitty mileage again. lol.

Dan what years were the L76?

Wifey has a 2012f150 ecoboost and loves it. Peppy little engines. I'm not a fan of the bucket seat higher end versions of the interior. We got the bench seat interior. Crew cab. No issues at all so far at 45k. Got a decent deal on a certified pre-owned at Washington Ford. At that time they had 10 or so preowned to choose from.

Any 6.0 from 2007-09 half ton pu or SUV. They're fairly rare birds but definitely worth the wait. The 6.2 doesn't have AFM, so it eats a bit more gas. I've towed over 10K with it, and it never needed more umph.
