1962 willys wagon wheels on a TJ?

Is this do-able with wheel adapters? I'm guessing I need 5x4.5 to 5x5.5 adapters. Is there anything different about the willys wheels that would change my mind about this mod?

I'd bet they are skinny. Probably only 6" wide. Might be a consideration.

Skinnier, different back spacing (I think the tires will stick out more, especially with adapters).

I have a thing for plain old school wheels that have that military-ish look (like the willys). I searched before and couldn't find anything at the time so I settled with 15x6 oem jeep wheels with 1.25" spacers and 31x10.5's. I painted them myself:



These fit perfect and are right at the edge of the flare (to stay legal) but I need to downside on the xj for the 20 min commute to work (moving). So I was going to take the wheels/tires on my wrangler and stick em on the xj and find another set for my TJ and I came across this guy's for sale ad. Turns out they are the exact same wheels as the ones you used on your dad's 1961 Willys Pickup. Do you happen to know the backspacing of the wheels? I know they are 15x5.5 so they are only .5" skinnier than my OEM's.


I'm trying to achieve a look similar to these wheels/tires:




It might not be doable and if not, oh well, I'll come up with something else.

Oh 3.6" backspacing. That might not work since they will stick way out with adapters like you said. Bummer. I guess I'll keep looking. Thanks for that info dude!

Dat roof. Talked to the Chrysler and AEV guys about some of those Jeeps at Bantam. Seems the oil burner from the Grand Cherokee rips apart the trans on the JK. The 3.8 is its limit.

But still they could make a mint on that roof.

The roof on that thing does nothing for me (but I ain't a fan of my hardtop as it is. I'm sure I'll change my mind in the winter) but those wheels... Those I wouldn't mind seeing a set arrive by my front door.

I just emailed them for a quote. I also saw similar, if not the same, wheels on summitracing for about $50-$120 a piece. Only difference is (I think) is that the lug holes are drilled for multiple applications.

The ones on Summit were pennies short of 100 bucks for 16x8s and the 5x5 lug pattern had a second 5x5.5 pattern drilled too and shipped primered. I'm sure application/size vary but I'm curious what that quote will be.
