    Koh 2016

Turns out I'm going to be in Bakersfield CA for the first week of February for work. Has anyone been to KOH that could lend some advice. Could I just rent a car and drive out there? Camp out for a night and watch the races?
    Any advice would be great
    Thanks
    Brian

Yes, quite a few people do that. It will be cold at night and may be windy all the time. Tents blow away so maybe sleep in your car. There are portajons at hammertown and you can buy food, beer, ice Etc but the selection is limited and it is expensive. I would pack a cooler.

You can drive on most of the roads to say chocolate thunder or back door and then hike the rest of the way if you have a fwd or rwd rental car. You can get much closer in a 4x4. It doesn't have to be anything awesome, a grand Cherokee or explorer would work. I never locked the center diff in my land cruiser last year. Plus with a 4x4 you can go exploring or drive to the cellphone bush.

Yep rent an suv and you can sleep in the back plus like DMG said it gets you everywhere you'll want to go. When I was there it didnt seem like to food was too expensive.

I agree with the above. A good jacket, warm clothes, chapstick, baby wipes, and sunscreen are all requirements. Get ice, beer, and food before you get to the lakebed. Sleep in your car.
