Going making a towbehind brushhog or how Gabe wants to make his jeep a tractor

Well I went up to my property today and to say the road is overgrown is a understatement. And it will be even worse in the spring so I need to knock it down soon, Down side I only have my gravely its 30" wide but walk behind and I'm too lazy to just duct tape it to the front bumper correctly so I need to find a 50" or 60" brushhog to do this right. And then a reasonably large lawn tractor with a vertical shaft motor that I can steal the engine from. I do have an extra 1.6 diesel from my rabbit but that the backup motor and I dont want to deal with watercooling on this mobile state of the art vegetation slaughtering device.

Step 1 Find a cheap/Free old tow behind brush hog my jeep doesn't have a 3pt (anybody have a brushog they don't want? )
Step 2 Find a cheap/Free lawn tractor with a 20ish hp engine (anybody have a lawn tractor they don't want )
    Step 3 Duct tape
    Step 4 ????
Step 5 Mow the shizzle crap out of some crap!

And since its been years since I broke out the worlds most powerful CAD package

    MSPAINT DRAWING INCOMING!!!!!

Just mount a blade on the pinion of a rear axle face it down with a lil triangle hitch mount... mount to jeepthen just just drive around destroying everything in your path

I thought of that but it wont have the blade wont have the right speed unless I'm driving about six or seven mph and if I hit anything tougher than grass the wheels will slip when the blade stalls.

I've brush hogged with a 30hp kubota before and it was meh, but that was splitting the engine power between the wheels and PTO I think a 20-25hp lawn tractor engine will work ok.

It would be nice to havea shear pin in the coupling between the motor and blade shaft. I don't think a mower output shaft would take kindly to hitting something since most are belt drive and dont see real shock loads like a direct drive brush hog can deliver.

I think a tow behind sickle bar mower might be easier to use like this one: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/grd/5483443166.html

Would be very easy to set up a belt drive motor as well.

Yes completely forgot about talking about the belt I would have to put in a 6:1 belt reduction between the engine and the brush hog, most PTO's are 540rpm and most engines are rated at 3600 so I'll need a double B size belt for the power, but the slip from the belt should keep the damage out.

well remember a lot of brush hog inputs are 540 but they will have a 1.5:1 or a 2:1 gear box.
