So I've been building this dirtbike...

So I've been building this dirt bike all winter and figured I would share my progress since the end is finally in sight!

    I started with a running, nice shape 2004 KDX220 and a 2005 KX125 with a blown top end.
Tore them both apart, reamed the KDX engine case for the KX pivot bolt, cut custom swingarm spacers, made some new mounts and slapped the 220 motor into the 125 chassis.
Made new head stay mounts and a spacer to offset the inlet cooling nipple
Had my dad bend up some round bar for hoops to protect the engine cases like on the KDX's
    Then I powder coated everything.
Built the wheels using the stock KX hub and rim, and the rear using the KDX 18" rim and the KX hub.
Had the suspension resprung and revalved for my skinny a$$ and woods riding.
Had a spacer ring machined to adapt the KX air box boot to the KDX carb.
Threw on a bigger gas tank along with a 2013 KF450F front fender and numberplate, 2008 KX450F shrouds, and new 05 KX125 rear plastics. New maxis tires with the heaviest tubes known to mankind
1-1/8" gold bars for some bling action

These things are pretty big on the KDX forums online, made the build very straightforward for me. I kept thinking about buying an orange bike, but then I thought this would be a whole lot cooler than one of those, and cheaper too. Cheaper....ehhhh I dunno. Cooler... for sure!

Well, that is about all that I have for now. The cylinder is currently out at PowerSeal USA being welded and replated. Once I get it back, I can reassemble the top end with the new piston, button up some loose ends, and this sucker will be ready to rip! I won't get the cylinder back till next week sometime and I plan to go to Powerline Park for memorial day weekend, so who knows when I will be able to get back to working on this pig. Anyways, just wanted to share, hope yinz like it.

Very cool. That thing should be great for whipping around in the woods.

Well, I finally finished her up, broke in the top end, and took her for a little ride this weekend. Man does she rip! lol its pretty much a wheelie machine now. The motor is centered better in the MX chassis, so its easier to balance and pick up the front end for sure. Just needs some jetting adjustments. Its going to be awesome in the woods. Its got plenty of bottom end to lug the crap out of on the tight single track I like to ride around here. Suspension is wicked smooth, nice and plush. Can't wait to take it out and actually ride it... only problem now is.... I really don't want to get it dirty! hahahaha

O yea, and in the original post, I said I was hoping to have the bike I wanted and spend less than a KTM... well.. I was wrong. Was looking at a brand new left over 350 at Barnes Brothers...and yea...I went home and tallied my receipts...i spent more ... whoops haha o well, its a brand new bike, exactly what I want...and I built it!

    Graphics on order now......

Have you seen this site for custom graphics? Clicky Click
Nice heavy material. Got some side number plate ones made for my KLX 300, but haven't put them on yet.

    Done!

Well, the bike is finished and running awesome. I wanted to share some pics with the final result. I couldn't be happier with the way this turned out, love how it looks, the suspension eats everything, massive amounts of bottom end letting it tractor through anything... its an absolute delight to ride. Not too bad for my first ground up bike build! I think the next bike project will be a road bike though.

Even took her to a car show one time before I took it out and got it muddy.

So... who wants to ride? haha

Green and Black are by far my favorite colors, I think it looks excellent. Even better as a Christmas Ornament!!
