    Oh whatever am I Building?...

So time to guess PGHofftopic what is this new thing I'm building?

A bunch of 6" channel, a 12x4 tube, couple feet of 12x1 bar, piece of 3x8 and 1/2 plate, bunch of 2" square tube.

Whole bunch of 20mm ball screws and a few meters of HSR30 and HSR25 linear rail.

    Oh whatever could it be?.....

Well, got some more work done, cut down the gantry tube to side and started laying out the holes for the linear slides.

Then started programming the place holder motion controller, the wiring diagram that came with the pendant is crap so I'll have to check all the wires with a multi meter.

Well, if you haven't guessed its a cnc router/plasma table!

Table size is 54"x66" with 12" under the gantry. I'm building it so I can stop outsourcing some parts for my turrets also so I can cut this huge ring gear for a client out of HDPE.
The plasma cutting bed I'm still debating how I want to run it, either as a open slat bed or a closed pan that I could use as a water box.

Got the controllers and motors in its going to run 1230 ozin nema 34 steppers turning 2005 ball screws on all axis's
Going to run them at 60volts , using a smooth stepper.
The place holder controller I have will be used for testing and then I'll probably install that controller on my 6x26 mill.
To I have POS terminal running windows 7 with a I5 which will run mach 4.

I got my enclosure the other day and its going to be tight in there also found the ebay seller cant use a tape measure correctly, but not worth shipping it back.

Got some ammo cans for another project might actually use them as a enclosure it I can figure out how to run the wires.

Spent all day saturday cutting down 5 feet off of a shipping container.

I did get a chance to try out my new welder though.

Well, Finally got some more time to work on it again. Made the rolling stand/swivel for the table.
I also changed the table dimensions a bit its now a 54x54" I have all my stock cut to 48x48 or so anyway so other than this 52" gear need nothing bigger for now.
But with the remaining space on the table I've designed in a 12"x48" A axis rotary for pipe cutting/notching (spend all day last saturday noting a tube for a client by hand with the plasma and a flexible ruler not doing that again)

But as for the stand its all 2x2x1/8" with some 500lbs casters and 1 1/2" pillow blocks for the table tilt I need space saving with my current shop/backporch (still looking for a shipping container/used truck box for a new shed/shop)
It will pivot just off of center on the table 24"/36"

Now today its easy its only drilling and tapping 168 8mm holes for the linear rails.....

Well I got farther along the last few days.

Cut out the cutting table brackets and rotary stage mounts

    http://vid151.photobucket.com/albums...pszbj5hpr7.mp4

Got the control box mounted and the power supplies staged still need to wire them up and find some large connectors to run out of the box.

I then found the brackets had a pretty good taper from the waterjet cut so I had to mill them all square...

Got everything squared up and started welding the frame up.

Then took some time to get some 8 ball for a secret project....

Then got out new forge running, alittle to well actually melted the front plate of the box.

    Video is below

Well was machining the gantry finally, and the inner plate that holds the ballscrew, had to mill down a slab of 4" hot rolled to 92.5mm and all my vises are different heights so I had to find the clamp set and most of that was missing.

So I'm finished milling down the bar and I look at the end of the bar....

Then to tap 54 holes, and slot the tube to weld in the support, then to slot the top of the tube for the ball nut mount.

Well while I was sitting around waiting for a 3d print to finish. I got around to drilling the holes for the plug welds for the gantry tube yesterday, so I can weld in the plate what will hold the ballscrew. It gave me a chance to use my mag drill it sits around way to much.

Then I see I might have been a little close to the 3d printer well I now have my my first metal composite print!
