Hello! Hello!,
Replacing brake master cylinder on 92 XJ. All signs of abs had been removed by former owner. Found the combo/proportion valve rusted up. Is the valve even necessary w/o abs? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Yes, I believe it splits the lines off and had a feature that diverts fluid away from a line with no pressure. Not 100% certain on a 92 but pretty sure you need an oem type proportioning valve.

Yes, proportioning valves are needed. It sends more braking power to the front, which is a good thing because rotors vs drums and because physics. Also it is a safety mechanism. In the event you have a front or rear line fail the valve should go to one side and divert all the braking power to the opposite side of the failure, making sure you can still stop.
