AX-15 or NV3500? need to swap out my 46re

Well, as you guys remember I stuffed a dodge 5.9 v8 in my TJ a while a go and now I can pass everything but a gas station (11mpg )
I used a 46re for the transmission and after 3 years now it starting to go. I'm randomly loosing 2nd on hills unless I manually shift it.
I dont want to fix it, mainly because I want a manual, so I know a NV4500 would be great but its way to big. So I'm at a AX-15 or a NV3500.
I've seen to many AX-15 vs NV3500 debates that come to no conclusion. So What do you guys think? I've seen Chevy LS swaps with more power than a 360 with AX-15's and NV3500's

I was probably going to get the NV3500 out of a 5.2 dakota swap over my np231 then have to find a 5.9 flywheel from a ram1500
That should let me use 5sp TJ shafts unless I can find a whole TJ AX-15/case/shafts somewhere.

So I'm bad at making decisions ........

TJ now with the power of a 5.2L vs 2.5L get same gas mileage....crap.

Pop the pan off and check the kick down band. If I remember correctly the one on my old ram basically fell off and lost 2nd gear. If I remember right it was like a $100 fix including fluid but that would have been in the early 2000’s...

Also 11mpg from a 360 isn’t bad, my 4.0 averages about 12.5 around town and lacks the power your rig has.

I was guessing it was a band problem and I'll probably fix it but I'm really wanting a stick, my bug and truck are manual so why not the TJ.

I think a 3500 would be easier and the AXs you find will be old and worn out.

A NV4500 isn't too big. Buddy of mine has one in his daily driver TJ on 31s with the 4.0. He swapped it years ago he said quadratec used to offer a kit.

For the NV4500 I cant find one that less than 100miles away and less than $1000, I can get the whole nv3500 trans and case from upull for $300ish
