I stopped at Dunham’s the other day and seen that they have the Smith and Wesson M&P Shield on sale for $349 in both 9mm and .40s&w. I have had the new gun itch for a while, but due to grownup stuff (damn bills keep coming in every month) I’m not really in the market right now. This however seems like a smoking good deal... if you own one of these chime in on it. I have always been a Ruger guy but I do like the M&P Shield that I was looking at.

Yup, those guns can be had much cheaper then S&W is running the rebate program, which I've seen a lot lately.
Personally, I'm a Glock guy, but I consider the Shield line to be on the same level. It comes down to your preference in grip angle and other ergonomics and controls.
I didn’t think $349 was a bad deal for that since it was marked down from $479 but $225 would be an awesome deal! I never heard of slick guns?

i truthfully never shot a Glock that I really liked. They are good guns but the way they fit my hand just never felt right, never shot all that accurately with one either (probably the same issue) not that small concealed carry guns are all that accurate anyway.
i've seen guys shoot the G43 and the shield out to 100 yards without much issue. the bodyguard or 42 would be another story though.

I can’t imagine shooting 100 yards with a carry pistol but I guess people do it. I can’t hit much of anything at 100’ forget yards. I did pull off a 250 yard shot with a 22lr pistol once, but that was completely luck! I couldn’t do it again if I tried. Like I said I’m not trying to bad mouth Glock, I just don’t like the way they fit me and I have always been partial to Rugers (and my Kimber). I would love to see someone shooting 100 yards with one of these pistols though!

ya at class we learned how to shoot out that far. it's honestly not that hard. we were shooting idpa? steel targets. it's wild though. you aim like a foot under the target.

ya i do 2 or 3 formal classes a year. there's a couple other people on here that have done them as well. professional firearms training is addictive and once you realize how little you REALLY know... you want more.

If the Glock doesn't fit you, no big deal, I hear that a lot. I would suggest you spend some time holding, pointing, and if you can renting/borrowing handguns that are S&W M&P, Springfield XD, Sig, and any other semi-auto that is made by a reputable company you can bet your life on (so Hi-Point and Jennings are out).
I've take a lot of classes and then I became an NRA certified handgun instructor about 4 years ago. I don't hold formal classes, just do one on one work with people who desire it.
Now I'll give you my speal on action pistol shooting.
I'm a USPSA Class B production shooter, which means I'm a little better than average (but plenty of guys whoop my butt by a long shot) and I use a stock out of the box gun with minimal changes and a max of 10 rounds in the mag to cause more mag changes and planning. I use a Glock 17. The Pittsburgh region has a lot of action pistol matches and the ranking system is national. It is the best way to become a fast and accurate shooter.

East Huntingdon holds a free orientation class with lunch and a practice match in March if you're at all interested. It's a sport that truly bends over for first timers and welcomes everyone.

The guy following me is the range officer and he has a timer that stops recording on my last shot, then the targets are scored. Time and accuracy determine the winner. It's a lot of fun and all you need for your first match is the ability to follow some simple safety rules, a center fire handgun, $25 match fee, 150 rounds, at least 3 mags, and an interest in becoming a fast and accurate shooter. You certainly won't win at your first match, but you will make friends and hopefully get addicted to the sport.

That sounds like a blast! I can’t watch the videos right now because I’m at work but I will check them out. That may be something for me to do to get better at shooting. I’m not a terrible shot but definitely not winning any matches. I did go to A&S yesterday and rented the M&P Shield and I like it, it’s a nice shooting gun.

Well I picked up a M&P Shield this weekend. I was at Grice gun shop signing up for a coyote hunt at Mosquito Creek Sportsmens Club (they were set up in Grices) and saw the Shield on clearance. I ended up getting it for less there than what it would cost me to buy it online and ship to an ffl, etc.
