    New motor time :-(

Just heard back from my mechanic. That tapping noise in my '04 LJ's engine is the bottom end.
He suggests a Jasper re-man engine. The rest of the Jeep is in pretty decent shape, so I'm definitely considering it.
Unless someone has a low mileage 4.0 to part with.

Reviewing the current status of my finances, the choice of a Jasper engine did not pan out as hoped.
I did find a 4.0 out of an '05 LJ at Davey's Jeeps. Has 75k but less than 1/3 the price of a re-man.
Hoping to have it all buttoned up in about a week or so (if all goes as planned)

I would rather have a low mile used motor than a Jasper.

I know someone that put a rebuilt jasper in their S10 and it had a decent rear main seal leak right away. Jasper paid for the seal to be replaced at a shop, covering parts and labor, but still pretty lame.

I had a NAPA rebuilt 4.0 that came with a bad thrust bearing on the crank.

Jasper's been sponsoring a NASCAR entry for 30+ years now - when's the LAST time you saw it in victory lane?

    '92 Dodge Ramcharger - 4 1/2" lift, 35's, 318 Magnum... a work in progress...

    OK guys... dilemma time.
I need the pilot bushing for the replacement motor.
Mine is an '04 and has the bushing, the replacement is an '05 and has a bearing.
The original was damaged trying to remove it.
Tried several parts stores. Seems as the age is leading to very limited parts.
    No luck at Rock Auto.
Dealer was closed by the time I found out I needed it.

Anyone know where I might find one?

    That's what the plan is.
Now I'm being told (on a Facebook page) that I don't need the bushing, seeing as the torque converter is bolted to the flywheel??
Why is there a bushing in the first place then??
I'll have to stop by the garage and see for sure what's up.
    Thanks.

with an auto trans it should just be a little divot for the snout of the converter to sit in. Nothing should spin in there.
