anyone here into old land rovers/range rovers?

a buddy and I are kicking around building "camel trucks" out of late 90's early 2000s discoveries or range rovers.

I couldn't remember if there's anyone on here that's into them. He just bought his disco already lifted. I had one back in the day and it's a gigantic POS. But for 1500-2500 they're pulling might be fun...

We were kicking around doing an overland trip with them.

We used to wheel with these guys. I believe Dana may still keep in touch with some of them.

Yeah I'm still in touch with quite a few of them. They aren't as active as they used to be but most still have their Rovers. Two of us might take a quick run up to the Laurel Highlands Saturday. Shake down run for the X and some issues I've been having with it.

This past summer, they had the historic Land Rover Oxford that made the epic journey in 1955. https://www.lastoverland.com/ I got to drive it around a bit. Quite the challenge. Left hand drive and all manual everything. Here are some of my photos. https://danaruksephotography.smugmug...xford/n-V5c9Qq

I had a 97 Discovery. It was too new to wheel much. First year for the 4.0 which was supposed to be better than prior years. I would rather have a $500 XJ in the Camel Trophy livery.

I had an 02 discovery 2 that was a massive pos.

But these are like the xj of the high end suv market lol. Xjs are 5k now and running driving discoveries and range rovers are 2k.

Half the shit that breaks on the Discos is stufff like abs and electrical. If you just worry about keeping the drivetrain alive it could work out.

There were some original camel trophy Discos at the Overland Expo. They were diesel manual trans, IIRC. Tall narrow mud tires and pretty ragged out looking, overall but they were running.

I remember when you had the disco. I made fun of you for all the cup holders and didn’t tell you I had owned one too. I was a dick sometimes.

I wouldn't mind a Defender, but they're banned from import because... Greta.

Sounds like a great theme for a Gambler 500 event.

There's a 2002 Range rover in iniana. that's the last year for the P38. he will do $2,000. needs the air suspension fixed and a heater core install. super common stuff.

i might run out and grab that. it's pretty nice.
