    Lift...

    Sup guys.

I have an 05 Jeep Rubicon. I am thinking about getting a 6" lift on it. There are a few names I am looking at (skyjacker, rubicon express, fabtech). Now, I'm looking for something that will also give me a lot of articulation. Any suggestions and also a round about total price?

Clayton makes some really nice stuff too.

Compared to other manufactures, I think there stuff is a little more expensive...but you get what you pay for

My XJ flexes really well, and im pretty happy with it. TnT Customs Long Arm setup up front, which is essentially the same kit they use on everything from TJ's, ZJ's and YJ's coil conversion kit. Take a look at their site.

nth degree is expensive as hell. I am really thinking about skyjacker, but I don't know which kit to get thats going to give me good articulation and at the same time give me the lift i am looking for. I really don't want to screw this up lol. It's a lot of money to put out, then for it to be not what i'm looking for would really piss me off.

stay away from skyjacker...if their kit is anything like the one for XJ's...its not a true LongArm setup...they do make some good coils though

Claytons is pretty decent, but requires you to weld it all on. Honestly I dont have any expierence with their kits, so I cant really say. I do know alot of people like them. Maybe you should wait until a TJ guy comes along and can suggest somthing for you rather than us XJ guys with a BB and 6in LA's.

Then stay away from the brands you mentioned and do some research other than the fancy adds you see in the magazines.

Nth degree is good. TNT is also nice.

I Prefer Full traction Long arm for a nice ride on the street and still exceptionally durable.

If money is a concern, I'd go Claytons. Just as good as the big brand name ones, just doesn't use the bling DOM. Still has a "U break it - we replace it" warrenty.

A complete 6" lift your looking at $2500-4K

Why 6"? 6" is pretty tall unless your running some full widths or something.

Oh and ya Skyjacker is junk, ask anyone that has run their LA suspension. They are ok for springs but suck for arms and joints. They are just a fancy name, doesn't mean they have well designed suspension.

Just do your homework before you pull out the credit card. Its real easy to overlook the little things like brake lines, driveshaft lengths, shock lengths, etc etc. Dont be afraid to ask questions either! You'll look like more of an ass when you have to do things twice than if you just ask in the first place...then make your purchases.

Yeah, see. When I first decided to get a lift, i was ready to just go out and get one. But I am starting to see there is more and more to go with it. With a 4", what all will i need to change up?

I'm using their joints on the long arm that I custom built. Little pricey but very good quality parts.

    Here's some ? to ask:
What are you gonna use it for? (rocks, mud, hills, street)
Do you carry alot of weight (aka how stiff do you need the springs to be)
    What budget can you afford
Do you want to do it right the first time, or work your way up the ladder?
    max Tire size?
How complete the kit is, or how much you need to buy to finish it off.
Can you do the instalation or how much are you willing to pay to have it done.

There are alot of good companies out there and each have a slightly different type of lift that works better here or there. things like spring rate, shock type, geometry type, stock replacement or Long arm. First decide what you need, than find one that fits. Once you have a couple choices then look into the other factors like customer service and reputation.

Not all lifts are created equal.

Forget the 6" lift. Unless you are going to 37's, I'd stay at 5" or under on a TJ.

Consider Full Traction, Claytons, or TNT. Those are the ONLY brands I'd ever even consider for a TJ lift. Period. The arguements are there for others, but I've seen those brand's first hand...

    Things you WILL need:
    1. extended brake lines
    2. longer shocks (sometimes the 'kit' shocks wont work to the potential of the suspension...particularly true for long arm kits)
    3. CV driveshaft for your T-case (I believe the rubi's came with a fixed yoke...so no SYE, but you'll still need a longer shaft)

EDIT: huge flex is overrated. You'll look cool on the ramp....and thats about it. Driver skill and lockers make a true trail-worthy rig. Make sure you wheel it stock and know its limits in that configuration before you go too big too fast.

    Here's some ? to ask:
What are you gonna use it for? mud, hills, and 95% street
Do you carry alot of weight? Only when I'm moving back to school
What budget can you afford? somewhere around 1500?
Do you want to do it right the first time, or work your way up the ladder? I'd personally like to do it right the first time.
max Tire size? I have 31" now, but I would like to put 34" Mickey Thompson Comp. Crawlers
How complete the kit is, or how much you need to buy to finish it off? I have a Jeep Rubicon stock. Other than that 5 KcHiLiTes I have, its stock to the bone
Can you do the installation or how much are you willing to pay to have it done? I can't install, but i am really good friends with a shop in my area...they only charge me for parts.

These sound like a serious tire if we are talking 95% street use, if your on the street I wouldn't go past a MT tire..too much lug doesn't do well on pavement!

    1. That first question I have no idea what your asking
    2. I carry alot of weight in bumpers spares and tools
    3. $1500, will buy the lift kit not the tires and wheels
    4. Go with 33's its a decent all round tire for street and woods use (I love my MTZ's)
    5. How complete is the kit? Depends on what kit you buy!
    6. Install your own lift, you will save money and learn alot at the same time.

Really, I would think more tire would be a softer ride and last longer. Im almost 21, so my Jeep is my daily driver. I really have to consider that too when i decide which one i want to get. I drive 79 a lot. I live in McKees Rocks, but I go to school up in Edinboro. So it's a pretty good hall.

Right now i have new MT/Rs I love them. 31". If I go with a 4" lift, am I going to need to upgrade the tire? Right now all I am looking for is the lift. When I get new tires, i'll get new wheels too.
