    MTB in Pittsburgh

I was just hopping someone could point me in the direction of some descent trials close to pgh. I have heard that North Park is ok along with South Park. I am taking the girlfriend so they need to be pretty smooth and not to hilly until she gets used to it. Any help would be appreciate. Also, if you can show me using topograph I will love you!

you know we don't post directions in a public thread!

but...why don't you take her to that place we went last summer? You can always take the back way around because its clear now.

    MTB = Moauntain Bike

Boyce Park has some nice beginner trails. They are not smooth or flat, but they are not hard either. Find smooth and flat MTB trails are not easy. Might want to start her out on the rails to trails if that is what you are looking for.

As for good MTB spots. Frick Park has the best trails I have ever seen in the middle of a city. They are not easy though.

Settlers Cabin has some trails. They are pretty equal to Boyce.

Schenley park has some very beginner friendly trails, along with Hartwood acres. North Park, as I've heard, is now completely legal. When I used to ride there you had to avoid the cops. Some very easy trails, some very tough.
It's about to get all kinds of stupid up in here!

    I forgot about Schenley park.

I have never been to the Hartwood Acres trails.

Years ago I use to ride in Ohiopyle before they closed the trails to bikes. There were a lot of nice rocks there.

well thank you everyone. I think we are gonna try the paved trails at frick. Should be a nice begginer trail. Any more input on more technical stuff would help me out still.

when you guys mean "tough" trails .... what do you mean...tough as in cool technical single track... no brakes speed burning down hill... crazy technical fall the wrong way and die downhill...

Well, tough comes in a lot of flavors. If you have ever rode the trails at Frick Park, to the beginner, those would be some seriously tough trails. To the experianced rider, they are moderate.

Frick has the fast steep down hills with sharp turns and then the leg burning up hill climbs. There isn't much technical, but not the easiest physically.

I bought mine about a month ago, and I've only had it out 3 times. I need to ride a lot more, so I can get back into it, and use the damn thing for what it's intended to do. Fly off cliffs and go down hills 40mph.

Diamondback XTS-06...It sits as is, needs nothing but beat on. Marzocchi triple up front, Fox adjustable coil in the rear. 6.2" - 7.2" travel.

Uh, I just told you. It's a Marzocchi Drop Off triple up front. Actually the rear isn't a Fox, it's a Manitou, Metal RP. It's pretty much the top of the line for Diamondback, and I got an insanely good price deal through a friend. Probably spend 50% of the price of comprable brands and got all the quality.

Old school cannondale with gold old rock shox mag 21's lol. Its older but can still hang. The one thing I do need to get is a new front fork. I am thinking either marzocchi or manitou's. Not sure yet. Oh and some spd's.
My idea of fun is twisting single trackin the woods with some nice downhill too.
If anyone wants to go for a ride let me know. I am always down and need to get my fat a** in shape!
