***MF Steve's Project Wife Beater Commanche***

So, its true... MFSteve is finally a Jeep owner again. It has taken a while but it has finally happened, he bought an MJ. Yes, I know what you are thinking - real Jeeps have round headlights (That is just a joke... calm down) but Steve never get that, even his old Wrangler was of the square headlight variety.

The Jeep is in GREAT shape for the model / year, especially considering the $300 purchase price. The body is extremely solid due to the fact that the Jeep is from Georgia and hasn't been subjected to the Pennsylvania winter salt. The color is kinda ugly, I referred to it as variant of trailer park flesh-colored nastiness. (He ran with that and nicknamed it project Wife Beater.)

Oh, and moment everyone has been waiting for... The pictures...

After tomorrow the project will be residing at my place... Oh, and the work will begin. I will let Steve describe the fine details, or at least the initial plans.

Welcome back to Jeep ownership man!

It was one hell of a buy! There is such a small amount of rust, I should be able to pull the dents and go right for the prep/paint. It's an extremely solid truck, no bed rust, and no tailgate rot...which is just about unheard of in this area. It's a 2.5L w/ a 5-speed @ 167,xxx miles...both of which will make their way to the for sale section on the forum. It's a solid running truck, has all its power and drives well.

The only reason I'm going to trailer it home tomorrow is the fact that there is a good wobble in the front end. It's either a unit bearing or a bent wheel.

Let me know if you don't find a tow-trailer, I just need to weld up my front end to get it off the trailer.

Yeah, it has a D35 rear as of now...but will be getting a D44. I was going to go full width, but I'm not up for the extra expenses.

The "frame" situation is interesting. The front half (cab) is the same exact unibody as a Cherokee. At the end of the cab, it converts to an actual frame rail. It's a huge rail...with more than enough cross bracing. Here's a shot of part of the rear frame:

I like you less and less each day. Good find. When I was on vacation I was sort of looking for something to get dirty. Must be from the south, rust sucks.

I have an idea what your plans are, but of course I'm not sure.

So what are the plans for it?

Steve got a prefect set axles for it in the garage. HP 44 and 9". 44 got new ball joints and the 9" got mini spool. you could do the extended raduis arms which I also have half built. Let it go for $500 for the set with arms. And can throw in a locker for the frnot for $150 more. Just an idea.

Good buy for a good trail rig.

And maybe you can shot a spring out like I did. LOL

I think we need to place wagers on how long it takes to get this thing on the trail. We can all pick a week,$5 each week, whoever is the closest without going over wins the pot.

From what I hear Steve is about to become a hermit and not socialize until it is done...

Umm, are we talking about when it is DONE, or when it is on the trail? I mean obviously some of that stuff does not have to be done to be trail ready.

Just curious, is it going to be a trailer queen or you going to make it streetable?

The first time it hits Ligonier, or C-Ville.

Oh, and I am pretty sure it is not going to be a desigated trailer queen.
