Did some winch testing...also fried my alternator

I decided to go out on Friday when a friend called to test out my winch. I went to the one place I knew I could get my jeep stuck the worst...now I see why I have began to HATE mud.

I didn't get many pictures but I'm sure most of you know how tall my rockers are for reference...

After I started spinning a little, the water/mud came half way up the back seat...that left my saturday open for an insane cleaning!

Anyway heres what mud/water and a high load did to my alternators power wire...

I ended up replacing the 1 year old alternator and putting a new end on the lead and packed it good with dielectric grease.

I was surprised how well the 10k winch pulled the jeep. So far I would say it is well worth the $300 I paid for it.

I also pulled Jasons(jeepxj3) jeep sideways with what seemed like little strain on the winch. It saved Jason some body damage with the slight situation he got in.

nice stuck. where's the pics lookin at the jeep from the outside?

get a snatch block and it'll double your pull strength for the times when you really need it. it'll also be easier on the winch during normal pulls.

If you add a second battery, your alternator won't have to work as hard.

Wait Jason had to be pulled. I thought he never needed a winch?

Thats what he told me about 3 minutes before he needed it

He wasn't stuck, it just saved his jeep from some body damage.

The dual battery setup is a good idea, I might look into that a little more than I already have. I thought the deep cell red top would be fine but two would probably help out.

    get a yellowtop for a 2nd battery.

Oh, and I def. could have made what I attempted but I probably would have done a little more damage to the PS of the Jeep, no actually ALOT more damange would have been done!
