    Fuel rail removal

so in the middle of my newer style manifold/ apn header/ downpipe install and got every thing off/ disconnected except the fuel rail/injectors

do you just pull the whole rail and injectors straight back out, or do you somehow unclip the rail from the injectors and the remove the injectors...

i figured everything else out (p/s pump bolts were a little tricky), but i didn't want to break these parts by yanking them .... they are a nice chunk of change to replace

    any instructions??

is this on an xj? 4.0?
If so I would highly recommend pulling the clips and replaceing the o-rings.

    yes, it's a 98 xj with the 4.0...

do the o-rings get damaged in the removal? whats the basis on replacing them? is it a just because a "while your at it" thing?

i'll just replace them... they seem to be no more than 2 bucks a peice (12 for all)

is it complicated pulling the injectors off the rail and putting them back together?

the top part of the injectors have a clip I think and the bottom just pull off of the manifold you can twist them to make them come off easier

well, I'll give it hell tomorrow

once i pull them out, I'll see how to take them apart, replace the orings... and determine whether snapping them into the manifold first would be easier than snapping the whole rail/injectors into the manifold after it's bolted on.

    i hope it stops raining

you have to intall them into the rail first then
    the intake.

i ground down the bottom side, on the last runner and it seated.

now i can't get my sockets on the bottom bolts to torque them... i think i will just use a wrench and little by little tighten them till i think i've got 25 ft/lbs

i'm tired, bloody, and greasy... i will finish this later...blah.

i'm going to make it to some m&g's... i serisouly have no friends who wrench... they all make enough money to pay a dealership/ shop to fix their shit. i need to find some new friends who could lend a hand once in a while..

Sounds about right...after mine leaking a few times I got it down pretty good, I could take mine apart and replace the gasket in about 2.5 hours. I ended up replacing all of my o-rings also though because some of them split and gouged up.

    i had some set backs...

i am short, with a lifted jeep... so i was on a step stool all day.

no torque wrench (45mins to find one)

had to sawz-all the d/p in two spots to remove..

had a heck of a time seating the intake (1hr of grinding little by little till it fit)

took a little while to re-hook up the d/p ( having 2 people would have helped)

couldn't even get the lower bolts in for the manifolds... took it all apart and set the bottom bolts in 1/4 turn then set the intake in..

realized the torque wrench i finally found would do no good since i can't get my sockets on the lower bolts..

smashed my thumb, cut my pinky, got rust in my eye, scrapes all over the arms.. damn small spaces!!

soo i needed to stop, make a drink and relax. the jeep isn't a DD anyway so i need not be rushed
