POR 15's pretty decent stuff...but after this summer i've taken a new appreciation to rust bullet. Im pretty sure you can get it from summit. It goes on as a silver paint look, but can be painted overtop of.

My pap used it on his challenger and said it worked pretty good so I bought some for my cj.

I do remember that somewhere there was like a paste for filling in holes that were I think less than a quarter.

Good luck, it sucks when you find cancer on a jeep you just bought.

ive used por-15 alot, did my entire frame... im not overly impressed with it anymore. it tends to be very finicky about the prep, if it isnt just right doesnt seem to stick as well, i think from now on ill use rustbullet on my projects

those with rustbullet experiance.... can you apply this over a small hole/ rust area

my door bottom, where the lip is, is rusted out, no bigger than a 1/4 inch gap on the outside metal, but the inside lip part is still there...will this work over a hole, i imagine i'll have a slight indent there after applied

It goes on very much like house paint. It'll cover the gap, but you'll end up with an indent there. My advice....cut a small piece of metal to size and weld/adhere that in there and THEN put rustbullet over it.

it is soo close to the lower edge of my door i don't think it could be cut and welded the right way.... well plus i don't know anything about welding

i don't care much how it looks as long as it stops rusting away

I've used "Rust Encapsulator" from Eastwood. Works real nice. Put some on a wrought iron railing 3 years ago that was rusty and it hasn't bled through yet.

It should work well for that IF its not rot. If the metal is soft and flaking off (rot), then its too far gone. Cut it out or it will spread. All of the rust inhibiting coatings only work if they can seal the metal from the air/water.

i just used Chassis Saver on my XJ. this stuff is sweet. goes on smooth and thick! nice finish and coats everything very well. can put right over old paint and tight rust without and etching primers or anything. and it is 1/2 the cost of POR15

I used this on the frame of my tj and was less than impressed. I didn't wire brush the frame as much as I probably should have but I had no really bad rust. Just some surface stuff. The Encapsulator flaked off. I ground the frame to bear metel and reapplied. Now 1 winter later, it rusted through the encapsulator.

I am thinking about putting pro15 over these spots, but when my frame goes, its gonna go from the inside out anyhow.

mixed results. i used it on the drivers floor pan of my 40. i put in sound insulation and carpet. its been soaked, (read below water line), and i never bothered to pull the carpet afterwards. still no rust.

on the other hand a know a guy that blasted a 45 frame then used this stuff. got rust all over the frame again.

from that i gather it works fine as long as its not in a place thats sure to see some abuse. im guessing once the product is set, and water gets thru later, youre back to where you started.
